Maybe we send an Uber driver to meet him at the airport when he arrives for Chelsea's medical. Then we announce the signing with the new Uber sponsorship at the same time. Win-Win.
... It does make you wonder whether there is something fundamentally wrong with out strategy at that level...
That's the difference between Chelsea and us.They pull out all the stops to get the deal done quickly.Get French Football @GFFN 5m5 minutes ago
Belgium boss Marc Wilmots allowed Michy Batshuayi to undergo a medical at the request of Marseille from 10-12 CET in Bordeaux. (L'Équipe)
Even in the transfer world Spurs lead you on only to let you down.
Every year we seem to get done at the post for players we've had a long standing interest in. It does make you wonder whether there is something fundamentally wrong with our strategy at that level.
Or, every year we let ourselves down. Seems to me it's us that sign most of these players in out heads with 100 page threads. Maybe we as a club were never really that interested for a number of reasons.

While Levy is still trying to work out a way of making £10m over 5 years look an attractive offerBecause they can. They're probably paying the €40 million in one go too!
I would never want to use Chelsea as a benchmark for anything. Whether it be football, ethics or how to behave in general. That's the difference between Chelsea and us.They pull out all the stops to get the deal done quickly.

If agreeing to any fee and any wages is 'pulling out all the stops' then you're right I suppose. That's the difference between Chelsea and us.They pull out all the stops to get the deal done quickly.
I was referring more to the fact that they send their medical team out to France to carry out the medical.Levy would make him pay for his own flight or just leave it till after the Euros and risk getting Willian'd.If agreeing to any fee and any wages is 'pulling out all the stops' then you're right I suppose.
They've got the deal done by offering a wage that would make him our highest paid player, because they have an income that dwarfs ours.
If he'd gone to Palace or West Ham I could understand the sandy vaginas in here but that's not the case.
I had the same thought. It probably is this. Most clubs would negotiate a payment plan and way for Marseille to include it in their finances, but they (and City and PSG, and others probably...) are able to come along and do this. Obviously makes deals easier, and it's a shame.. but this sounds like Spurs could have had it done at any time in the last 6 months until this week. Bloody hell..Because they can. They're probably paying the €40 million in one go too!

I agreeOur strategy is always to play the 'long game' in an attempt to shave a few quid off the deal. I'm not against this as it can and has worked for us, but Levy needs to realize that you cannot be doing that with goalscorers or exceptional attacking talent. It's a different ball game to trying to sign defenders and defensive midfielders, you need to move quickly with attacking talent, especially strikers..
