Stumbling upon?
Yeah, stumbling upon. It would have been LVG if Man Utd hadn't stepped in.
Stumbling upon?
OK, in which case we shouldn't get any striker at all. IF we don't need a GOOD striker, then it's not logical that we would need an inferior striker more, hence we shouldn't spend any money on any striker and spend all the money on a new player for the AM3.
Second choice yes but we can't run Kane into the ground as we did last year, this is the reason we bought Wanyana so we don't have to play Dier in every game. If we aspire to improve then we need 2 players of relatively similar quality for every position. Last season we only had this at full back and LCB. We've now fixed this at DM. We need to fix this in most other positions but striker is the most acute need. It isn't solely about fatigue but also about the power of competition to lead to improvement.I don't think 30m is actually crazy money for Batshuayi if he's going to start games for a team that will provide him the ammo every week. At 22yo I think he already has proved he has basics (ability/mentality/product), has had good progressive development and his potential to keep developing makes that 30m perfectly acceptable.
But he would not be a starter for us. We already have a player who has just won the golden boot at a similar age, offers goals, pressing and fulcrum play. We are not desperate or rich enough (and to be fair, with FFP, few are) to pay £30m for a player who will be second choice for nearly every important game that Kane is fit for.
Our biggest weakness is creating quality chances. I'd much rather we went and spunked some dough on someone like Draxler or Fekir, added a bit more wit to our attack and bought a cheaper back up option to Kane, either a young up and comer or even and oldy but goody. Because that's all that's needed for our striker situation.
That would not bother me at all, but that is not what I said. Having a clear, established, proven, one of the best strikers in the league already in a team that predominantly plays a one striker system and that system requires a certain type of striker (a remit the striker we have fills perfectly) says to me that we should be finding a striker to fulfil the type of remit that Batshuayi fulfilled last year whilst developing at Marseille as back up to Gignac, and using the funds more wisely on an area of the pitch that does have clear deficiencies.
Not testing you, genuinely curious for more info, why would Bony be available for a cheap? I agree, if possible, that would be a great deal to pull off.Second choice yes but we can't run Kane into the ground as we did last year, this is the reason we bought Wanyana so we don't have to play Dier in every game. I've never watched Bats so don't know if he is the guy but if he goes to Chelski then I'd be happy going for Bony who I suspect will be available for a knock down price and I think would be a good Kane rotation option with something to prove.
Maybe that was the figure he agreed with us months ago, but Chelscum raised and we wouldn't follow.
This is more and more a farce if the number is correct. Maybe they paid off the agent, that's the part of the story we never hear facts about. The article I read this evening suggested that's what Chelsea will be paying him.

I obviously don't know that he is but he hasn't done well there and I get the feeling Pep likes buying new toys and will go out and buy some money no object striker like PEA which will mean Bony de facto becomes available.I just don't believe in buying somebody just for buying somebody. Our squad won't automatically become better simply because we can put "2" beside the number of strikers (and I know this is really what you are saying, too). There must be something more to a transfer. We already have abundant of makeshift options, and we don't need more from that category. Facing CL footie, we need players we truly believe in, or we need not spend the money.

Ah, I see. Still interesting thought. My problem with both Janssen and Sanabria is that I don't think neither is ready to hit the ground running, which in effect means that we would be in the same situation as last season also next season. Bony on a cheap could address that, he knows the league.I obviously don't know that he is but he hasn't done well there and I get the feeling Pep likes buying new toys and will go out and buy some money no object striker like PEA which will mean Bony de facto becomes available.
Knows the league and crucially has done well in a team that dominates possession while at Swansea. On the down side he hasn't shown at City that he can do it when not playing regularly but I think Poch could work with him.Ah, I see. Still interesting thought. What if you have aspirations to be the chaviest, scummiest, most moral-less wanker on the face of the planet? They sound like a good blueprint for that...I would never want to use Chelsea as a benchmark for anything. Whether it be football, ethics or how to behave in general.

Isn't it even more strange though, if Chelsea didn't offer substantially higher salary? To be fair thats quite close to the number I was told he wanted/agreed with us.
Look, Chelsea are always going to be a bigger draw. We're like Liam Hemsworth, perfectly attractive and a movie star, but they are Chris Hemsworth, you know, just a bit better looking and more successful.Isn't it even more strange though, if Chelsea didn't offer substantially higher salary?

Look, I think somebody messed up. That's what I think. Now, let's go spend a smaller sum of millions on an even more unpolished alternative who will spend all next season getting used to PL and Pochettino's system effectively leaving us with Son as striker alternative for one more season. But, hey, then we got more value for money, right?Look, Chelsea are always going to be a bigger draw. I don't know what happened mate. All I know is he was happy to come, Marseille were happy to sell, and MP wanted him. I just don't believe we were ever going to get close to the asking price, and when Chelsea came in he then had another viable option..
