MOTM - Son

CBs - Steady

FBs - Steady; Davies still catching form

CM2 - Vic did his job; Dele squandered many a chance

AM3 - Son was amazing; Eriksen tidy; Sissoko needs some time to bed

ST - Vincent was great at bringing in the team

Subs - Lamela, Winks, Gkn; NET

Thought Sissoko and Dele looked a bit off pace.

Good 55mins, followed by an incredibly poor 40. It's getting worrying that every time we're put under pressure we seem to lose our heads - we forget to press and resort to hoofing it up to the CF. Need to sort out our game management.

Lloris - 6 Not much to do.

Walker - 7 Solid throughout.
Alderweireld - 7 Calm and composed (again).
Vertonghen - 6 Good 1st half, but lost his composure in the second.
Davies - 5 Not sure he has the athleticism or technical ability to excel in our system.

Wanyama - 6 Solid.
Alli - 6 Some threatening moments, but should've scored in the 42nd minute.

Sissoko - 5 Has the potential to be insane, but seems to be playing within himself and offers little as a result.
Eriksen - 7 Thought he dictated play in the first half, often dropping deeper, but made a few bad decisions in the second.
Son - 8 MOM Two great goals, but his close control/dribbling can still lack finesse.

Janssen - 7 Held it up well, barely had a sniff at goal.

Pochettino - 5. Good selection, but not sure why we had three defenders on the bench, and he needs to start reacting quicker to changes in momentum. Took him too long to make the Lamela change, and not sure why Janssen was taken off.

Subs:

Lamela - 6 Lovely nutmeg but could've retained possession better.
Winks - NET
N'Koudou - NET but looked quick and promising.

The first-half was brilliant, the second-half was a bit more shaky, but I don't agree with anyone saying we were lucky. What did Middlesbrough actually create apart from the goal? Traore had a few good runs but did fuck all with the ball. Yes, we were put under a bit more pressure but that wasn't exactly surprising. Didn't help that we forgot to press though. Things shouldn't have been remotely shaky though, Alli missed a sitter but he also should've won a penalty after a blatant push.

Lloris- Didn't have much to do, but Christ, his distribution was shit at times.

Walker- Decent game, didn't do too much going forward but was solid defensively.

Alderweireld- Reliable as always.

Vertonghen- Very good game I thought. Also good defensively, and we saw some old fashioned surges up the field and he did well with the ball.

Davies- Same as Walker

Wanyama- After a few annoying fouls early on, I think he had a solid game.

Eriksen- I thought he had a fantastic game, dictated the midfield very well, especially in the first half.

Sissoko- Not making an early judgement, but he really was shit today. Didn't offer much going forward and his passing was really poor at times. His work-rate was OK but sometimes it seems he runs back and then just gives up. The most annoying thing though was their goal. There's 2 interpretations of it- Sissoko was either being fouled, or he just couldn't be bothered to challenge. I really hope it isn't the latter.

Alli- Not great as well, missed a sitter and didn't create much.

Son- Thank fuck we didn't sell him. His two goals were great, with the second being absolutely jaw-dropping. His work-rate was fantastic and he was heavily involved throughout the game.

Janssen- Didn't have many chances of his own, but the first goal showed that he can bring a lot to us. Fantastic hold-up play to set up Son, and he worked very hard as usual.

Subs:

Lamela- One lovely nutmeg and worked hard, couldn't possibly perform any worse than Sissoko did.

Winks- Should've come on earlier, not enough time to make an assessment. A tough time to come into the game though and didn't do anything wrong.

Nkoudou- His pace helped us see out the game.

Think I'll avoid this thread. We have 5s and now 4s coming out because we had a poor 20 mins after cutting them to pieces

Agree. But we didnt really have a particularly bad 20 mins. Unless you count a 20min spell where the losing home team put you under pressure but dont really manage to ever open you up as bad.. we still probably had better chances in that period.

4s' and 5's come when you get beat at home to Boro, not school them in their own backyard.

I agree how we're we lucky, last 15 mins we were under the cosh but that's what happens when the home team are pressing to get it back to 2-2

We got the result we needed away from home still unbeaten and in 2nd place

5-0 up at half time wouldn't have flattered us but the last half hour was disappointing. We let Middlesbrough play and conceded 2/3 of the pitch for no real reason. Still, better finishing/ less heroism from their defence (or the ref actually giving the clear penalty to Alli) and we've won comfortable by the mid point.

Lloris can be so confusing. How can a goalkeeper so good off his line during normal play be so useless off his line at set pieces. 50% at fault for the goal.

Walker made some good tackles and gave us a lot of impetus thought. Only defender who didn't go to pieces after their goal.

Alderweireld was sloppy by his standards today.

Vertonghen needs to up his game immediately because if this flat footedness is now indefinite he'll soon be replaced by one of two very promising young centre backs.

Davies playing like this can just fuck off. His casual, languid approach when we are under the cosh and constant putting of other players under pressure is inexcusable.

Wanyama was all action for the most part but seemed to disappear towards the end.

Alli seemed really natural in CM for an hour, rotating positions well with Eriksen, but really deteriorated after the hour.

Sissoko wasn't exactly free flowing but he scared them every time he ran at them and got the ball into dangerous areas regularly. Must do better on the goal. 50% culpable for that one, big beast like that.

Eriksen was very good, really dictated things and took responsibility throughout. Looked far sharper than he has done.

Son scored two lovely goals, brought directness throughout and worked his arse off. Good link up play.

Janssen never had a chance but his hold up play and linking of our attack was great. Left isolated as we went too deep after their goal.

Sissoko, Son, and Ali are three footballers who knows how to play triangles and also effectively dribble past players. When they lose the ball, its because they are trying something in the FINAL THIRD other than the sideward pass, backward pass which is total bullsht.

No matter how shit they are, they are proper footballers who knows how to move the ball around.
I have no idea what's the love in with Lamela. He's lightweight, always loses the ball for nothing and can't dribble to save his life.

So 10s for Sissoko, Son and Ali

We have a terrible record against Boro, Hamilton Ricard anyone??

So with this in mind a game that we could have won 0-4 had we been more ruthless must be a good thing so can't find fault except...

Sissoko. Seen him twice and he has a final ball on a par with Aaron Lennon. He was embarrassed by his 'effort' for the boro goal and couldn't wait to get off the field.
We have bought the Newcastle model rather than the France limited edition.
I hope he proves me wrong but unless my eyes deceive me I think he is already looking sulky.
