If there's any doubt then give him a break
Kristoff Terreur on twatter:
Toby Alderweireld will undergo a scan today. Possibly one of the nerves in his knee took a heavy knock. No full diagnosis yet though.
Probably not related, seeing as the guy will be getting top notch treatment, but some [edit] fornicator once insisted on playing football with metal studs on an artificial pitch and landed on top of my big toe. It led to nerve damage, and for a month it felt like my wrist was being blown clean off with a shotgun every time i tried kicking a ball.
The doctor told me that playing football wouldn't be dangerous, I just had decide whether it the fun outweighed the feeling of the foot being shot off thing.
Still guessing, but one could probably ease the pain through local anestesia if it's "just" nerve damage.
If there's any doubt then give him a break
Fracture his schedule up thenPlease don't use that word.
He could have had direct trauma to his Saphenous nerve considering the impact was to the anterior (front) aspect of the knee and potentially medially (closer to midline)That's what the Times are saying too. Better news than the Guardian article.

Although I await the SC Nerve Damage Specialists to comment before I get too excited!
Take it you are in the building trade? He could have had direct trauma to his Saphenous nerve considering the impact was to the anterior (front) aspect of the knee and potentially medially (closer to midline)
After the initial pain on impact and resultant inflammation/swelling it would probably present like patellofemoral pain syndrome
Could take a while to actually heal itself, especially in his line of work with the continuous impacts and explosive movements during matches and training but it would probably/hopefully reduce enough for him to comfortably return to action sooner rather than later (even if he requires some pain management to comfortably play and train in the mean time)
We have a run of fixtures before the NLD where it would be reasonable to rest him if necessary anyway so hopefully this won't be too negative an issue for the player or us

I was a plasterer before doing my physiotherapy degreeTake it you are in the building trade?
I'd need to watch it again but I thought the commentator suggested he was hit by Vertonghen as Jan landedI rememeber him holding his back of the knee just below thighs
Would drag my member through a mile of broken glass for that to be true.
I'm not sure that's really necessary.Would drag my member through a mile of broken glass for that to be true.
