Not sure what the problem is with the club trying to create some memorable moments. Looks good here....

It's either English moodiness or a little bit of hipster rejecting the americanisation of sport

quick question - did anyone use Wembley Stadium station to get home after the Monaco match?
If you stayed for the final whistle, What were the waiting times like?
(i'm not keen on waiting over an hour to get on at Wembley Park as my son was shattered last time)
Cheers

Is it an option for you to drive? at least that way your son can sleep in the car if needed

I'm assuming you're not drinking because you're with him. I took one look at the flow of people for Wembley Park last time and just went to the pub for an hour or so to let it die down as it seemed like madness

I'm not a fan of Americanised style sports events, especially football but building up the atmosphere before the game cannot be a bad thing and something that makes being at a Spurs match memorable is nice and a bit of fun. I go with my son so build up, free flags, posters, glo sticks or whatever adds to the hype and expectation for him and I'm happy to be part of that so that we can look back and remember memorable matches together. Hopefully we will also be able to recount some goals, skill and match excitement too which is why we go in the first place. These CL matches are as much a match as an event.

I thought the atmosphere was pretty dead against Monaco

People were trying to sing and what not but it wasn't building much of an atmosphere

My friend and I were well up for the match too and had gotten nicely drunk on the way to the ground expecting the atmosphere to rival the 2008 cupfinal on our last trip to Wembley (only with more Spurs fans this time) what we got was a bit of an anti climax and an atmosphere more like the last time I went to Wembley with my dad for a preseason match against Barca

Maybe it was just because we went behind early and killed the mood a bit but if these types of american gimmicks can get things going a bit I am all for it

Where would you park?

I drove to Stanmore last time and it took just under an hour to get from the stadium to the Wembley Park at final whistle. We got home (to Northampton) just after midnight, which was a bit late for my 11 year old who had school the next day. Its my mates turn to drive tomorrow and he's already said he's thinking of leaving 5 mins early which is behaviour I wouldn't usually condone but the 5 minutes could save us 45 minutes in terms of journey time.

Cheers Shea - that was another option. I could park near Wembley Central/ Ealing road and walk 1 mile (20/25 mins) to the car after the match.

However if the Wembley Stadium station has reasonable queues we can get on the Chiltern line and get home quickly without the walk (esp if the weather turns).

When I drove to the game at Wembley against Barca I parked in some industrial estate car park right by the ground which was charging a tenner - granted the crowd wasn't anywhere near as big so the queue to get out after was no problem and I saw people stuck in terrible traffic right by the ground after Monaco

Depends which side you are driving in from - I've parked as far as the other side of the North Circ before (toward central middx hospital) and walked 40 mins to the ground and I've parked in Sudbury and walked a similar distance from the other side in the past.

I dunno how nice it would be for a young kid to walk - I grew up with my dad marching me from seven sisters to the ground even on school nights so a long walk to a match seems pretty normal to me, but I can fully understand not wanting to subject a child to a long walk

Wow, the Dortmund fans are amazing. I love how they all get behind the team to display amazing imagery before the game.

Hang on, you want me to hold a glow stick.....

I think at the moment this is what we need... arrows to show where to goals is. Maybe kill 2 birds with one stone and have people behind the goal shine their lights in an arrow shape.

Could you not get the train from Northampton (and then back?)
I went to the Monaco game, left as the final whistle went, was at Wembley Central within 15 mins. Changed at Harrow & Wealdstone to a London Midland train and was at my station by 10.45 and home by 11. Not as far as Northampton, but still quick and easy to get away.

That said, when I take the kids to anything at Wembley we tend to drive and park in the industrial estate.
Never had a problem getting away really, but then again, I've also never had to deal with a crowd around 80,000 in size.
The one time I did deal with a crowd that size was a concert in 2000 and it was ages before we got away.

I think your right in that the early conceding killed the atmosphere. added with once Wembley goes quiet it is really hard to get it going again.

it was really loud where I was with the guys behind us banging on the roof bit above their seats, sounded great. but when I spoke to my mate and his dad who took me to the game who were practically on the other side of the stadium they said they couldn't hear us. the noise just doesn't carry around the ground

Hey Robbiedee, as @Shea mentioned, parking down towards sudbury is an option, as is parking behind Ealing Road, Wembley. Its a 15-20 min walk and is pay and display until 18:30'ish.
Again, if you didn't want to walk down the high road you could get on a bus - but walking may well be quicker. Sudbury is a bit further on from ealing road - and i would recommend using the bus if you park out that way and have kids with you.

Especially once we found ourselves 2 down - everyone seemed very deflated (understandably)

When Toby scored it was loud but to be fair around me about 1/4 of the people (including my mate) had gone to buy drinks or to the toilet ready for half time

I think half time came too soon after the goal and the atmosphere didn't carry over nor pick up again second half as we really didn't do anything to encourage the crowd (aside from the moment where we all celebrated a penalty that wasn't actually given of course)

Pockets of atmosphere around the ground but nothing more than that - I am kind of expecting the same tomorrow unfortunately though hopefully if we score early the whole place will be buzzing

Is Wembley Central likely to be as busy as Wembley Park is after a game?

So what pub by Wembley will you lot be in? Heading to game with the old man (Chelsea fan, wanted him to hear the CL music so he can get misty eyed) and looking for somewhere to have a few before the match
