.

Thing is, in my life (40 odd years) I have never seen us play so consistently badly over so many games......and that's with a team that is meant to be one of the best we've ever had.
You're not looking hard enough. There've been plenty of consistent spells when we've been crap. Times when we could only dream of being unbeaten in the League at the end of November.[/QUOTE]

But playing awful football. Everybody can see it. Ferdinand and Hoddle didn't hold back last night and rightly so. We were terrible, on the biggest stage.

I missed the game in real time last night as I had to put my little girl to bed. Delayed watching it and avoided the score. Disappointed with the result obviously. But compared to the last time we went out of the Champions League, a 5-0 battering at the Bernabeu making the second leg a non-event, I think last night was an improvement. I was carrying my Dad's coffin into the church just as Peter Crouch would have been getting sent off. Realised it was just a game and if you look hard enough there are more important things in the world. Life, death, family, spending time with your children/loved ones. It was a brutal lesson then but it keeps me happy and content this morning.

Boom! Just dropped some deep shit on yo' ass!

Dembele and Wanyama are problems.

Dembele is back to his old tricks of holding the ball for far too long instead of sharp positive passing. He continually gets into jams, then tries to spin out of them. It looks good and skilful when he beats his opponents, but totally unnecessary. As a result our play slows down significantly and we find it hard to get in behind our opponents.

Wanyama overplays his passes and holds it too long as well. We were much more dynamic with Dier in this role, he played it so simple - win the ball and quickly push it on with a simple pass.

I'm sure thing's will improve at some stage although it certainly won't happen this weekend as I'm expecting us to get our arses handed to us again.
After that we have some games that we should win(ha ha) and hopefully pick up some points and a few goals.
I think most of the EPL have our number now even the poor team's as witnessed Saturday so it's no surprise that the CL was a bit too much for us.
Poch needs more time as he is in credit for his previous efforts but he seriously needs to revisit his philosophy as it's not working.
I would like to think in the summer we might go for it because I'm expecting us to do fuck all in January, but I would not hold my breath another summer of bargain buys and dithering awaits.

I think we have lost a lot of confidence as a group and that is showing in our performances. Some of this is down to it being a young group of players who lack experience at the top level. I still am hopefully that everything will 'click' in another match, much like it did vs City which will get the confidence back and get us playing at a better level.

Our problems this year are obvious really, injuries to key players and a lack of form from vital players - mainly Eriksen and Dembele who have been awful imo. Walker and Rose also are enduring a dip in form and this is impacting on us massively as they are so important to the way we play.

Really not important enough to post, but it was a 4-0 loss that night in Madrid!

I dislike the Negative post's in here, But this is such a positive thread, Seems that by now some people want us to have the Premier League all wrapped up, Harry Kane be on 50 goals etc , the Club is moving forward and I couldn't be more happy about that and OP I am with you man, have we had some bumps along the way ? ah yes we sure have but man Original Thread sums it up.
And all these positive nancies go in to other more negative threads, hate on posts and neg them. Dont reap what you cant sow. Dont dish it out if you cant take it.

Liverpool and Chelsea are pretty much putting the same fully fit team out week in week out.

We have not started our best 11 at all. Half the team aren't even fit. We've been missing Kane, Alderweireld, Rose, Dembele, Alli, Lamela at various points. We're currently without our best CB, Kane, Alli and Dembele are clearly not yet match fit.

My reason to be positive is fact we've yet to see a run of games in which 90% of the team that nearly won the league are match fit and starting.

I personally feel Dier should be first choice DM...we have lost a certain tempo with him not there.

Being knocked out of the CL is upsetting, we deserved to be out after losing 3 games, it's not the end of the world.

If you asked me what trophy I'd prefer to win.. it would be the league.

Not in my lifetime, but weren't we actually relegated in the 70's? That must have been some pretty shite football...

it wasn't even as good as shite. 1 game we played Bristol City at home, and I don't think either keeper made a save, and it ended 0-0 because the keepers never needed to save anything, and it was wet and cold that was shite with a *****rating:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

It wasn't pretty :D But football was 'proper' back then

do you remember the above?

Last night’s performance was dire. There is no denying that. In fact it was one of the most inept performances I’ve ever seen from any side.

I understand the doom mongers coming out from under their rocks. I noticed peering over a blokes shoulder this morning, on the tube, that the Sun highlighted Pochettino’s recent record.

You can point figures at Pochettino and the attitude of the players certainly. It disturbed me to read Rose’s comment that he was gutted to miss the Chelsea game as it was the fixture that all of the players were keeping an eye out for. This highlights a lack of focus or the respect for last night’s opposition.

For me the issue is pretty simple. Our squad is not strong enough and those responsible for recruitment including Pochettino are at fault. We have failed to capitalise on successful seasons time and time again. Add to the fact that a few of our players have been poor or found out somewhat then we really haven’t progressed at all.

I sound like I’m joining the doom mongers, but I’m not. We have some incredible talent in our squad and I’m convinced that the future is extremely bright with the team and with Pochettino, but we still lack the key players we needed last season i.e. controlling midfielder, a skilful forward and a striker.

Winks may well develop into the controlling midfielder, but the jury is severely out on N’Koudou, Janssen and Sissoko.

Our whole recruitment needs seriously addressing. When you look at the efficiency and ambition of Dortmund’s recruitment in the summer you can see where we are deficient.

We annoyingly aren’t far off, but we still have a way to go.

Like I said, mind was elsewhere! ;)

I know mate :), (also sorry for your loss) I agree with you and what you said by the way, some things in life are far more important than football, I rarely get stressed with football anymore for that very reason, even when I wrote my thread about Poch last night I was calm, years ago I would be flying off the handle even when we lost a simple game but like you, experiences have made me react differently.
