None of this crap is clever. It's a damn game. Stupid tribal neanderthal rubbish.

Agreed.

Out of interest, is there some sort of history between us and Milwall then? I've been supporting the club for over 20 years and I can't remember us playing them at all!

Or is it just the hooligan/London thing that went on outside all the grounds in the 70s and 80s?

I never have, nor will I understand the mentality of wanting to fight people for no reason. I can just about understand lads in their teens or early twenties getting caught up in stuff and behaving in ways they later regret, but to carry it on into your 20's/30's/40's is just fucking absurd.

Also, I know there are obviously plenty of London hooligans, but I believe the drunken fighting culture thing seems to be more prevalent up north. Back 20 years ago at University one of my best mates was a guy from Sheffield. One of the nicest, most polite blokes you could meet. The sort who would help an old lady cross the road and who used to go all gooey eyed over a puppy. Get a few pints in him over the Student Union though and if someone looked at him the wrong way he'd want to fight him.

We couldn't understand it, but he'd tell us that back home their Fri/Sat night used to consist of getting tanked up and getting into a fight. And then the next night they'd meet the same people they had a fight with and buy them a beer .

I think some men just like to fight. Look at the amount of white collar boxers and cage fighters there are now. Its not a class or race thing. At least with the hooligan stuff its generally like minded people, the Friday/Saturday night stuff ends up with innocent people getting caught up in it.

Absolutely right.

A friend of mine once got a broken nose because he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

To me it feels like people who do this are taking out pent-up frustration related to their lives on their victims, because they don't know another way to deal with their issues (although I guess this discussion is more for the psychology thread!).

Oh, and just to add to my post above, this mate of mine back then was a Derby fan and once spent the night in the cells for invading the pitch and deliberately knocking a coppers helmet off . To be fair, even he realised how monumentally stupid that was, but still kind of saw it as "something you just drunkenly do".

Ye I hate it. I won't go out anymore really. People just have a chip on their shoulder and it's not just a punch up these days unfortunately.

On the subject of football violence one of the funniest things I've seen involved hooliganism. There had been some violence in Bristol, mainly involving Bristol City fans. The local news showed an interview with a 'witness' saying how it just came out of nowhere, and how it's sad to see grown men acting that way.

The news channel then immediately cut to earlier video footage of the same bloke hurling a chair at a group of bystanders.

We last played them in 2001 in what was supposed to be a friendly in was anything but, it kicked off with running battles going on until the early hours.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

It kicked off a bit after we played them in a friendly back in 2001. Does anyone remember that? There was a mini riot wasn't there?

Bloody hell, at a friendly?! There is something wrong with these people, honestly.
