2nd or two trophies? I'd take two trophies if that is the offer.

Our season or Man Utd's season? Ours. Every time. Context is the difference here. Our season is such an improvement on what we have been doing and a sign a club is on the right direction and our future looks oh so bright. I wouldn't trade it for Man Utd's season of truly boring football, underachieving (considering the money and talent they have and the bleakness of their future).

Man Utd still need a full scale rebuild from top to bottom, and they will spend another 200m because that's what they do. And no-one is denying them that winning two trophies is great for sure. But you can't escape the context of how far Man Utd have fallen, how much they've spent, how big their wage bill is, how disappointing their season was and all of that.

What special is happening exactly? Something special is wining trophies which is what they have done.
Challenging Chelsea for the title is special to me, I agree that winning trophies is special as well.
If we get Winks and Lamela back ready for the new season, get rid of Sissoko and add 2 or 3 players of quality, I think we can challenge on all fronts.

I just don't get how people can be moaning over the season we just had.
Dissapointed in not getting a trophy fair enough but to treat it like it was nothing?
Undefeated at our final season at the lane, kane golden boot, best football in the league, dele young player of the year, a title race, qualified for the cl again , +60 goal difference, highest league finish in over 50 years, record points in the prem and people are moaning?
Sad.

Man U were very lucky to win the league cup - cough, officials offside goal should have stood cough - and the timing of the manchester disaster would have propelled the importance and motivation to win many fold more.

One manure team playing shit football and won some cups and a small degree of meltdown here in SC..

We can bear others success and take it into our own failures at times, but there is no need to think we would rather trade places with them.. If I'm a fan of manure now, I will be worried that my team is in danger of becoming a top-4 gate crasher possibly gonna be challenged by teams like Everton /Southampton in the coming few seasons if we don't play better from now on..

Be careful what you wished for..

Unfortunately in their case they're an Antoine Griezmann away from being pretty darn good. They're defensively solid and have lost hardly any games but as blunt as a spoon in attack.

We've worked very hard to get where we are but the other top teams are still only £100m of the right signings from catching up... And they'll spend that money.

For what it's worth I think we had a good season so can't complain as there are many positives to draw from.
Yes it's disappointing not to win anything but then we have only won two trophies in 20 year's so we are used to not winning much like Utd who in one season have won the same as us in a 20 year period.
Chelsea will do the same on the weekend and bag two trophies because like Utd there clubs are geared around serial winning which they both do, clubs like us should just be grateful and savour the moments like we have had in case they don't come around again for a while.
After all these years of supporting this club we do have a team to be proud of and maybe we are destined for greatness or maybe not, who knows if our team will stay together or go onto be a serial winner the fact is we are in a better place than we were and a lot better than others.

Must be honest I would take the trophies over second all day long because finishing second will not show on our role of honour but a trophy or two of them certainly would.
Utd have been distinctly average but have won those big games when it mattered something that we need to learn to do semi-final, west ham etc.
But the season as a whole as to be considered a success with the team undefeated at home all season, record points haul and second spot are all good things to work with for the future, but I certainly would have utds trophies right now.

I kinda said that though, like the first sentence of my post is I'd take trophies over 2nd place. What I wouldn't take right now is being Man Utd over being us. I wouldn't take their season. On paper their season wasn't too bad. Qualified for the CL and won 2 trophies, so not bad. But looking at it properly, they spent how much money? And didn't even come remotely close to challenging for the title and barely even challenged for the top 4.

Their team has no real distinct style of play, even with the money they've spent they still need to spend a hell of a lot more money it seems. They've got players they need to clear off their books, they've got bang average players earning 100k a week (I'm looking at you Lingard). Mourinho isn't really inspiring confidence there and look at how he's managing players like Shaw. It's far from great there, the two trophies cover it all up. Yes, it's a nice cover up for sure but that's all it is.

So yeah, I'd love a trophy. If you asked me right now if I wanted to win the League Cup and Europa League or finish 2nd again I'd go for the trophies, no doubt about it. But what team would I rather follow/think can go further/think had the better season? I'd say us.

Is many years since we finished second and that represents significant progress. United have the trophies and the glory but in all honesty the best teams played their reserves in the League cup and the quality in the Europa League was poor. Ajax were awful last night. Think our achievement was greater.

It's a difficult one to suggest who could go further as coming from the heart I want that to be spurs of course, but the head is inclined to say Utd by virtue of their spending power and general gravitas.
If if Utd had not secured CL last night they still would have gone out spent big and blown us out the water on fees and wages plus players will still go to them because of the dollar.
We know what we can and can't do so obviously we are treading a different path whether that brings us equal success for the future remains to be seen, and football these days is a huge money game and if you got it then your chances of success are greater than those on less resources which is obvious although we are bucking that trend, it therefore is a waiting game to see if our project brings us the success and fortune that the club desires.

Would I rather have won two cups or come 2nd in the league? Yeah, the cups every time.

But if you ask me if I'd rather watch our team come 2nd or that Utd team win 2 cups then it's Spurs every time.

You can call me out as romantic and out of touch if you like but I'd rather not bother watching at all if that's what it takes to win things.

How many people on here were on the verge of giving it up under AVB? Plenty, judging by the posts I've seen. And to be honest I didn't blame them.

But this side under Poch has made me fall back in love with my Spurs again. It's made me renew my membership. It's made me look forward to taking my boys to see this team, our team. And that, to me, is more important than bus parking your way to winning.

I want to see us win things, of course I do. But I want it to be a vindication of the way we've done it. With style, flair and yes, with glory.

So well done Jose, you won. But this football fan turned over last night and watched baseball instead.

Go further may not have been the right notion to suggest, more on the 'right' track. We seem like we're moving forward and progressing and pushing what we're capable of. Man Utd are still trying to reclaim the glory they used to have and honestly don't look any closer to it than when Ferguson left.

I take nothing away from Man Utd, even in this 'poor' patch for them they have still won trophies. We're having a great patch and can't win trophies. So fair play to them. Nevertheless, I think we're going in the right direction and they're still trying to find their path. They could very well find it next season after spending another 300m or whatever but they also might not. There's not enough to suggest yet that next season will be great for them. Whereas for us, I feel there's so much in our favour that it's likely we'd have another good to great season

I think we as fans have made a big mistake in the last 10 years by treating the Europa League with such distain.

I remember the last home game of the season when we first qualified via the league and the fans were singing all match about going on a European tour.

The Sevilla quarter final is remembered by many as the best athmosphere at the lane and we didn't even win.

After that point we seemed to all get disinterested and I think this rubbed off on the managers. How many time have our own fan base referred to it as "Micky Mouse" or lamented playing on a Thursday? It was quite refreshing to see Mourinho throw the league to win the thing (i appreciate the fact that it now leads to CL qualification has lots to do with this). A real winner. Sometimes I felt that the likes of Redknapp were scared to go deep in the competition as it would mean they would have to change focus.

Lastly we have always implied that we couldn't attract players because no-one wants to play in the Europa League. This is a picture of Pogba from last night.

I expect Manchester United fans are euphoric today and rightly so. I still am delighted with our own season, mainly because of the progress we have shown but the pressure to win something next season is going to be huge.

That include ourselves then who couldn't beat ladies & Gents over 2 games? Not even heard of them before this season.

Apart from 1 season under redknapp we're pretty awful in Europe considering the size and players at the club .
Just don't seem to handle Europe right. Not even made it to a Europa semi

Well the CL reward for winning it is only recent . Also we haven't looked like achieving anything in Europe for years , no matter which team is selected or which competition. This season just gone we were miles off being competitive .

I think its more than people feeling disdain for the competition , we couldn't set up right ,couldn't deal with the extra technique European teams often display and were schooled on occasions by what appeared on the night to be superior opposition. Poch is clearly still learning the European ropes ,Mourinho obviously not . Very annoying that he should win it with that Utd team. Leicester also at least showed form in Europe .

We were motivated for the CL alright but were pathetic compared to our Prem form .
