Maybe he is confused and thinks that Spurs are in China.
A player has to have some arrogance and self confidence but he is delusional with those demands...

I wasn't aware I had to run my credentials past anyone to pass on a small amount of information. I wouldn't normally ever claim to be ITK, and I'm not really now. In fact, I wasn't going to mention this at all because I didn't want any journalists who use the site to get the story before they did. Then I noticed The Mirror story and people immediately claiming it was bullshit. So I thought it would be useful to know that another national is, independently, running the same story.
Yeah, no national paper would ever regurgitate the info from another... the echo chamber for bull shit is just loud, regardless of whether the original story is bs or not.

It's not that we can't pay more wages because we generate more finance than Everton, it's more a case of levy refuses to play the same game as the others he prefers to do it his way as we well know.
Yes, on average, we pay more than Everton. Not sure how all the new contracts will pan out for them.

We have a wage structure. He is not even a guaranteed starter. There is no player in the starting XI who's spot he will be taking. If he is, indeed, asking for more than a double golden boot winner and one of the best keepers in the world, he ought to go on to Chelsea, or City or ManU where they would not blink at 150k GBP weekly. I don't see any other top 6 teams looking to sign him. Again, he would not start for any of them

All due respect, he needs to earn it. If he is not willing to do that within the team structure, then he does not belong in this team. Vukovic is miles better as a player. There are others out there. I actually am very interested to see how Winks does this year.

So after months of talking to Barkley we've only just got around to asking what wages he wants...Right.
There was ITK before the season even ended saying we didn't like what he was asking for wages.

This is not something even remotely new. Simply people with very short memories.

If someone gives him what he wants, good for him. He hasn't earned it. Far too many holes in his game for that. It's why Everton were not prepared to offer more than 100k/week. Instead, they are buying other players and trying to offload him.

On the good side, such demands, which we will not meet, will only serve to push down the amount that Everton will get for him.

This is new information. Two national newspapers, independently of each other, have both written a story about Barkley expecting £150k. They didn't both make up a story and coincidentally come up with the same figure. What we do know is Barkley is asking for a similar amount to stay at Everton. When the story breaks that he's looking for similar from us, why do we suddenly assume it's BS? Mainly because it doesn't fit in with what we want.

Just because two papers are printing it, doesn't mean it's separate sources. When some reveals something they often do it to multiple journos. By the same token, it doesn't dictate whether or not the source is right or wrong. This info could be spot on or pure BS.

What I would say, as others have said, is that it's extremely unlikely the transfer would have rumbled on this long without us and Barkley being aware of each other's expected salary stance.

Whether true or not, regardless of transfer fee, I like Barkley but I don't want us signing anyone who will come in on higher wages than Harry unless it's Messi.

The Mirror are one of the most unreliable news outlets up there, they shouldn't be trusted and have be known literally to make up fake news to sell papers.

I can't believe awful journalists such as John Cross even have a job. They're a bunch of journalists with bias agendas.

Or the paper just made it up.
Lot of it going on in the media ATM regarding all the top clubs so I'm told. There aren't the leaks at most clubs like there once was,, and yet they still have column space to fill.

And JJ is right, Barkley wants to come, wages are not the issue.

So why would anyone leak such news? My guess is Everton as they want to rid him so paint him as a mercenary...

Hence a deal might be close as suggested 20m + 5m add ons.

Because it gets hits - the "Spurs pay low wages, it's holding them back" gets hits from our fans, who hate it, and other fans who love to laugh

It's not a new technique from papers - they're there to sell papers/get clicks

The guy who said "We've been after him for ages, we'd have known this by now" was spot on (sorry, can't remember who it was) - sometimes logic gets left at the door with football...frequently in fact!
