With Chelsea the question you have to ask yourself is, if I sign for Chelsea who do I want to go out on loan to?
It's a bollocks story.

He wants to be on the plane to Russia, there's one man who can give him that, a man who is magic, you know.

Another unfounded rumour???

Ross has had his heart set on coming here for months. He knows he has defincies in his game, and after spending a lot of time with our England contingent he is convinced Poch is the man to sort them out. He is very good friends with a couple of them, and we were made aware a long time ago of his interest. I have probably been saying more than I should on this one, and this doesn't mean he will 100% end up here, but as of last weekend his people believed he would.

If this is true, and I'm not doubting Trix here, then surely this is a great sign that Barkley has not been enthused by the current, or previous Everton managers and that his alleged desire to work under Poch is evidence that he is determined to learn and improve rather than seek a big money move, if so, good on the lad and I for one would welcome him with open arms. It would also be a good indication that young players who are serious about their football development would rather join us than chase a fat pay check, if we get Barkley and he's successful then hopefully more and more talented youngsters who are serious about their careers will follow.(y)

Moyes the angry Scot, Martinez the snake oil salesman and Koeman the underwhelming. Who would be?

I have zero knowledge of Barkley but it seems we're getting wound up about nothing. We want him, he wants us, he's had an operation and we're negotiating a price, we need to calm down.

My personal view is that the deal has already been done with Spurs which is why Koeman said he was 100% certain the lad was leaving. I think everything will get processed once the team comes home this weekend from USA.....Couple of days will prove me right or wrong....

I doubt that anything happens until he recovers from his injury, Levy will see no point in paying his wages while he is injured.

Maybe not technically done but I agree it's all agreed and as good as done.

Nah, if it was we wouldn't be seeing all these stories that Man U and Chelsea are interested - that info has purposely been leaked to the media to force Levy's hand in negotiations. The deal will get done but probably towards the end of the window when Everton won't be able to bluff any longer.

So Mourinho is replacing Rooney with the man Everton have replaced with Rooney. Or Chelsea are buying him as their 17th choice AM. All sounds like guff to me.

The only logical top 6 option for him, other than us, is Arsenal where you could see him getting some game time. But you would have to be mad to be a young English player and choose to follow the likes of Gibbs, Walcott and Ox to Arsenal (all of whom have stagnated under Wenger) rather than following the likes of Dele, Dier, Rose, Winks etc.

He'll come, just maybe not until 31/8.

We're being naive if we think Barkley will choose us when it comes to decision time. At the moment he might like what we're doing, and think we are the best fit for him.

However if we can't agree a fee with Everton and someone else offers 5m to 10m more than us and also inevitably offers 120k+ per week he will end up going elsewhere. It's happened before and it'll happen again.

Also Barkley he might end up on the bench wherever he goes including us so why not just go for the most lucrative option.

That's exactly my concern as well.

If it all about money we wouldn't even be in the mix as he could have got more at Everton with a new contract.

You are more realistic than people who think he'd only be sitting on the bench if he came to us.

Great info @Trix and does make me more confident. Makes sense from Barkley's viewpoint too. Issue is Everton, and they will try and push him to the highest bidder.

I think this is the last throw of the dice to get a few more quid for the lad nothing more. Chelsea have no place for him, he'd end up on loan at some lower prem club. He's aware of that I'm sure.

If he's as keen on us as has been suggested, I assume he can just say no.

Chelsea and other clubs have beaten us to players that were sold on our project before. What if Everton tell him they can't accept our weaker offer?

Some weak promises and an extra £50-100k a week would make any player think. Conte isn't exactly a bad manager either.

I don't think we can ever be overconfident in this scenario, although I do feel this is being led by Everton to try and get us to pay up.
