Agreed and last time I checked we smashed them 4-1 in a stadium that isn't even our home ground and we're due to play them shortly with no reason to believe we can't beat them again.

Tough times hey.

What's the point in even watching football?

EDIT - Apologies, I'm a sleep-deprived idiot who apparently can't read properly and thought you said no reason to believe we CAN beat them again.

They're 2 points above us with 14 games left, get a grip man.

If you can’t see that they’ve overtaken us this season in the quality of their football (due largely to the success of their big money signings) then I can’t help you.

We’re behind them now, and we’ll be behind them at the end of the season. I’d be delighted to bet money on that with anyone naive enough to think otherwise.

I hate the phrase 'goalposts were moved'. We seem to hear it so often that you have to wonder if we're actually just terrible at shooting. And why don't we just grab another ball and shoot into the newly located goal?

Obviously none of us have any clue what goes on, but we do generally seem to struggle getting big money deals over the line, at least when they're already being reported upon by the press. Son and Sanchez signings both went pretty much under the radar didn't they? It seems like if we're being linked to someone expensive in the press then we might as well give up any hope of signing them.

They may have overtaken us going forward but I think I will reserve judgement until we can play with Toby and Wanyama fully back in the fold. Liverpool has some great talent going forward but that is not the whole game and I still like our chances of finishing above them by the end of the season.

And if you can't see that we're still a long way off competing with them financially, then I can't help you.

No, my gripe is that we haven't improved the squad adequately when we've been in a position of (unexpected) strength.

We've shopped in the bargain basement and been overtaken by the likes of Liverpool who we absolutely should be competing with financially.

City were just used to illustrate the absurdity of your 'money guarantees fuck all' position.
But money really doesn't guarantee anything. City have been able to utilise it, but look at AC Milan, who spent close to 200 million last summer.

I would suggest that AC Milan, rather than City, are the exception when it comes to clubs buying success.

If the opposite is true, then maybe we ought to start giving City and Chelsea some credit after all?

Yes, but to what degree is the question. To the extent that they can spend £75 mill on a Southampton defender and we can’t, maybe, but to the extent that they can compete in the market for players like Mane and Salah but we can’t? That the best we can do is Georges Kevin N’kuodo, or Clinton N’jie?

We tried to buy our attacking talent on the cheap, we failed, and now we’re paying the price.

We try to buy all of our players on the cheap, some workout, very very well, some don't.
How about we stop spamming this thread, go to the 'Is Levy holding us back GRRRR' thread (because thats what you're getting at), you can pop your thoughts in there, and i'll ignore their existence..

I still don't know what you're asking for.

Obviously, taking on City, Utd and Chelsea at their own game would guarantee we lose, so we have to adopt a different approach.

We've been reasonably successful and finished above all those clubs and Liverpool and Arsenal in the process, but are clearly still working at it both on the playing and financial fronts.

What would you recommend we change?

And, as mentioned in last nights match thread, Liverpool beat us at Anfield last February and
we then went on to win 12 out of the 13 remaining league games only losing to West Ham in their Cup Final.

Lads

City spend 200 mill on the tea lady 200 mill this year is now the equivalent of 80 last.

When a team need a defender and go and spend nearly 300 million on 3 you realise they are just killing football

Your stokes Swansea West hams may as well pack up and fuck off ( in the hammers case that' just a wish)
We are performing minor miracles just staying in touch with chavs manure and cashchester
Lolerpool will implode if they don' get success soon as trying to spend with citeh is impossible.

Even with all the cash in the world pep and moaninhio still needed to unsettle some of our players to help them get above us in fact I doubt moanyio ever had any intention of signing Danny or Eric

Hilarious how not signing one player who no-one had heard of in the summer causes such fury in some.

No personal dig at you intended but I get really frustrated with this kind of comment.

The fact that some didn't know much about him is irrelevant. Many have been championing the need to add quality in terms of an offensive player for a long time. Like bloody seasons.

Poch has wanted such player for quite sometime too. ITK has stated that.

We are approaching a crucial time where being in the CL next season would be a huge benefit to us and in this moment in time that isn't a forgone conclusion.

And with our top 4 competitors all strengthening well, you can't help but feel it's all going to be close but no cigar.

I don't to hear about excuses. It's difficult for everybody.

When everyone is fit from both sides we have a better starting 11 than them. Don't even think their bench is all that personally, they're short in reserve since selling Coutinho just like us.
They're playing to their capabilities this season, we haven't been. That's why we're behind them.

I don't think they're investing massively in their squad ala Manchester clubs. They sold one of their best players for 140m and have been and are spending that money.

Personally I think us and them are in a very similar situation, both clubs with a couple of quality additions to squad are good enough and should be aiming to win the league despite net spend wise being on another planet to Manchester clubs.

But all the ITK pointed towards him joining in the summer anyway, he wouldn't even be coming in now mate.

Heard this for the last 4-5 transfer windows as far as getting top four is concerned, including Everton ffs. It's not all about spending money.

I think we’ve reached the natural limit of Levy’s low risk/high reward transfer policy. It’s brought us from mid-table to Big Six, which is a huge achievement, but it won’t take us any further, and won’t deliver the major trophies we all crave.

It’s time to start spending money on second tier talent (I am aware we can’t compete with City or Utd), rather than obsessing over sell-on value. The market has changed, and so have the expectations placed on the club. Levy has been caught cold by those changes imo, and needs to catch up fast.
