He would be good, but I think Ajax are probably sick to the teeth of us buying their best players and would demand an insane fee.
If the price is right, I don't think they'll mind too much - after all they have a proper conveyor belt of talent going on.

Just because a player has proven quality elsewhere it doesn't automatically it will work out either. There are plenty like Mikhitaryan at Yanited for example. What we have to realise is that if we buy a £50mil+ player that struggles, then we don't have the spare funds to just go out and buy again to rectify the situation like the real Elite clubs and financially doped clubs do. Just look at how much Sanchez is costing Yanited because HM doesn't fit.

The difference is Mikhitaryan at his off form low level is still a decent player who can contribute. He wasn't THAT bad for United and United have still got decent money for him or in this case a top player. When the likes of Nkoudou don't work they contribute nothing and are just a waste of a place in the squad and leaves us light up top.

In terms of opportunity wasted, however, the signings of Llorente, Janssen, Nkoudou, Njie et al have proved to be very costly.

Just imagine what Poch could have achieved over the past couple of years without being hamstrung by Levy’s bargain basement failures.
Yeah, we could have had a few more Paulinho/Soldado/Sissokos in there.
Spending money guarantees sweet FA.

Prefer the look of Kluivert to Neres at Ajax if I'm honest (JK seems to have a bit more magic), and based on some youtube scouting Neres would be a seemingly cheaper/easier alternative to Malcom. That said 8 goals and 9 assists in 1278 mins in 14 games is pretty staggering!

Neres looks tricky and seems to have good vision, but doesn't seem to have the rocket of a shot that Malcom has that would be handy.

Maybe we are using the Neres link to get Bordeaux or Malcom's agents to blink?

Would I take Neres now if available now though? 100%. Plenty for Poch to work with.

That argument might hold some water if Man City weren't winning the league at a canter.

The best players generally cost the most money, and the teams that win the trophies almost always have the best players.

Have to disagree Mikhitaryan for Yanited is no where near the player he was for Dortmund(first season excuses etc). But that is beside the point. The point is that an expensive player wasn't working for them, so they just bought one that is costing them substantially more. We can't do that, and it really is as simple as that.

Thanks for that, your real gripe is why we aren't spending Man City levels of money then?

No, my gripe is that we haven't improved the squad adequately when we've been in a position of (unexpected) strength.

We've shopped in the bargain basement and been overtaken by the likes of Liverpool who we absolutely should be competing with financially.

City were just used to illustrate the absurdity of your 'money guarantees fuck all' position.

City & Chelsea have 8 league titles between them and a number of cups.

No way we compete financially with Liverpool at the moment. They've had more disposable income than us for decades. Maybe we can close the gap but we've got a load of non-football outgoings to manage in the short term.

We shopped in the 'basement bargain' for dier, alli, wanyama, Vertonghen and Alderweireld. Sometimes your transfers come off and sometimes they don't. We can't afford to spend a huge amount of money on a player and then just shrug our shoulders and buy someone else if it doesn't work.

They're 2 points above us with 14 games left, get a grip man.

Agreed and last time I checked we smashed them 4-1 in a stadium that isn't even our home ground and we're due to play them shortly with no reason to believe we can't beat them again.

Tough times hey.

They only have money to spend as they are continually sell their best players, Salah is likely to be next with Real Madrid sniffing around.

Hilarious how not signing one player who no-one had heard of in the summer causes such fury in some.
