Oh yeah, completely agree that we couldn't offer Mourinho what he needs to build a winning team, all I'm saying is that I'd have no problem in a hypothetical world where a coach could come to us, and play dour, boring football (and spending a ton to do so) if it came hand in hand with a Man Utd-esque trophy haul.

I'm not a purist; I want Spurs to win things at almost all costs.

My thoughts exactly.

Perhaps if our Chairman was on the same results orientated bonus as the players we'd be making more progress.

The club is on the verge of becoming the new Woolwich without the silverware, just so long as we make the CL qualification fuck all else matters.
I think your right we also will mirror their transfer policy of selling to rivals and see them continue to win trophies whilst we act like them and console ourselves with the notion fourth is good enough, but even they with their weak mentality they still win cups where as we don't win fuck all.

Interesting post. Hadn't looked at it that way. Put Levy on silverware related bonus, I like it.

The urgency was on the pitch but the quality didn't shine through today. Partly because we weren't good enough and partly because United's game management was good. Yeah it was scummy, but it stifled our momentum/tempo and that's integral to our play. When we played at our tempo, they really struggled (the first 20 minutes and then 5 minutes before HT).

How could anyone disagree with that winning football over predictable inevitable regular defeat.

Im not sure about that. I couldnt watch the dross AVB served up even when we won.
What annoys me with Pochs team is we fk around at the back far too much for my liking, just willl not clear the ball. And there's a lack of urgency when we're behind.
We've turned into Arsenal, we want to score a goal building from our goalkeeper and passing from one end of pitch to the other and walk it in. Was far too slow today especially 2nd half.

The top 4 is so important to us now though because it will allow us to attract the best players and the best managers. If you have the best players and best managers then you will give yourselves more chances to win something.
Not this again.
We are good enough to win trophies now. It could have been us in the CL semis or the FA cup final but we blew it. Look at Arsenal qualifying for the CL 16 years in a row. They don't have the best players, they still manage to win cups, they are in the semis of the Europa this season, if they beat Athletic they will go on to win it.

We have done well to qualify for the CL in consecutive seasons but it's totally unrealistic to expect to qualify every season, it's just not going to happen.

We were second best in the day Utd were better no excuses we bottle it in the cauldron of expectation every time 8 semi-final defeats is a fucking joke.
Mourhino and his players rocked up today expecting to win the pundits all expect the same, we on the other hand hoped to win and that is the difference in the mentality.
We can beat these teams occasionally but when the real pressure is on we wilt and die in the expectation of success, poch has gone closer than anyone in recent times but the weak mentality is still prevalent as proven last year today and the previous other 6 semi-finals.
While I get you are disappointed as I am, you are wrong to say that the mentality hasn't changed. We have killed a few albatrosses that have been around our necks.

I'm pretty worried about us self destructing during the run in like 2016. The signs are all there for an implosion and our players need to put this behind them. If we bottle 4th and Chelsea sneak in there it's a doomsday scenario.

Agreed.

We’ve got, what, 9 days until Watford? Plenty of time to put this one behind them and commit to a few more games. Get top 4 and be done with it.

Professionalism for me is not saying you want to leave on the middle of a title fight.

On the pitch is about raising your game and giving that extra 20% or at least playing to your level. If every player played to their level then we would have won.

Teams go through bad patches, we hit ours at a bad time. 3 home losses which eliminated us from 2 comps

Again symantics. I think we are talking about the same thing here. Either way we have to pick up the mental side of the game

Man Utd's time wasting really was exceptional, I would over to know how much they managed to shorten the second half by.

Mourinho's teams really mirror him perfectly, ugly as sin with nothing artistic about them.
He's a winner though and that's another thing that his teams mirror.

I think what is really killing us at the moment are the full backs. There is hardly any threat coming from them and it allows teams to becomemore compact and harder to break down. We really need to upgrade these areas this summer.
