Seems like every time we talk about Liverpool having shorter odds than us people still say the same thing despite the fact that the bookies are always gonna have Liverpool at shorter odds because they are backed more by Liverpool fans.

It's actually like groundhog day on here sometimes.

I never said otherwise, I’m really not sure from where you infer that I think we shouldn’t enjoy watching them. All I’ve said is that we have been better than them for pretty much a decade and remain better than them as the league, where we always finish ahead these days, does not lie. I caveated that by commenting that, should they beat Madrid this month, they would then have a semi credible argument that my above comment is no longer true.

I never made any comment on playing styles or enjoyment of other club’s exciting football,

People on this site need to stop reading things that aren’t in black and white and just respond to what posters have actually said, conversation and debate would flow far more freely.

Ah. Obviously came out wrong. Wasnt intended as an attack, more an addition to the flow. Apologies.

Spurs to win the league next year 12/1
Liverlol to win the league next year 9/2
It’s just all the scouse die hards lumping on early & going all in. Every year they’ve got ridiculously low odds early on

Is it that deluded to think that Liverpool could win the league next year? I wouldn't say so. City will be favourites and rightly so, but if they have a bad year then Liverpool will be as well placed as anyone to fight for the title.

Is it deluded to think that a team who finished 25 (twenty five) points behind the winner to think they can win the Prem? City would need a serious downturn in form let alone Liverpool to win a further 8 matches, the suggestion is actually laughable and that goes for anyone of our rivals, there is no-one who are simply on the same planet as them.

The bookies know through history, that every season a lot of Liverpool fans have a punt on them winning the title. So their odds are low to cover the possibility that they might do it. if they put them at the same odds as us, and they managed it their losses would be so much more substantial. By the time they kick off next season due to the amount of money put on them they will be nearer 3/1

This City team won't do a Chelsea.

That Chelsea team was a fluke. They had a lucky season involving no European football, barely any injuries with the same XI every single week. It was no wonder they won it comfortably.

City will probably win it again, but perhaps not quite at a canter this time round.

They’re strong favourites. But of course another team can finish above them. Ridiculous to suggest it isn’t possible.

Klopp is better at coaching attacking play than Pochettino so I wouldn't be shocked if they leapfrog us next year based purely on the fact that right now below the top six everyone is fodder. I can't recall the league ever being as weak as this. But Pep is better coaching attacking football than Klopp and has more at his disposal. I can't realistically see Liverpool getting anywhere near City next year unless Klopp gets his team to learn how to defend. Because right now Liverpool are not good defensively at all once you beat their press.

Man Utd will be there nearest rivals if they get their summer dealings right. It's actually quite amazing how well Mourinho has done with this crop of players. Utd fans aren't happy at the style of football but their team and squad is comparatively poor and yet they've leap frogged us and still managed to get 81pts. They get a couple of good defenders and someone a bit more creative on the flanks then they'll give City a run for their money.

I think if the roles were reversed between ourselves and Liverpool, many people on here would be saying that even though we finished two points behind, the fact we had the player of the year in our team and were in the CL final would be a better season already. We would be shrugging off the idea that Liverpool playing at Wembley was a disadvantage.

Anyway... here's an interesting thread on RAWK asking if they have made progress this season and what their goals should be for next. There are a couple of crazies in there but a lot of people being fairly balanced:

Q1: Should we be right to be happy about our league performance?

Cautiously so, yes. A league title was obviously never really an option, at which point the next best thing is the CL group stage. Getting there with more goals scored and fewer shipped than last season is alright, if unspectacular. Considering how thin the squad was I would regard it a success in spite of having a point less to show for it than twelve months ago. Back-to-back CL qualification is not self-explanatory in this league.

I think that sentiment can pretty much be echoed by Spurs fans, apart from the GD thing.

Yeah but forget about winning the league for a second, they cant even fucking finish above us. Like once in 10 years and that was a Suarez filled fluke.

The bookies are basically saying they are 3 times more likely than us to win the league when they have finished once above spurs in a decade is a piss take.

They're saying no such thing, they set the odds that way as they have to cover themselves incase Liverpool do win it because of the massive number of bets they get each year, otherwise they'd be bankrupt if that were to happen.

Odds aren't set on likelihood that something will or wont happen, odds are set and adjusted by algorithms to ensure the bookie always wins.
