The pay for referees is relatively poor as well, the big names get a decent salary, but the others don't get nearly as much as they deserve. With a sport like football that is flush with cash, not sure why we can't pay the good ones a good salary.

Because everybody is hell bent on paying ludicrous salaries to the top players and then declaring that 'they're worth it'. The top echelons of football are bleeding the grass roots dry.
