igijedi hinted that today is another busy day for us in the itk thread, so i think this is probably true
I think a 9 man bench, with the extra 2 having to be club trained could be a start. Obviously managers don't have to use them, but at least it would get more kids around the first teams.Would love the FA/PL to push a new ruling squads that really promoted the bringing through of youth players. Not sure what exactly it should be, but it's desperately needed.
That would only be a token gesture though. As you say the players wouldn't ever be used. It would change nothing.I think a 9 man bench, with the extra 2 having to be club trained could be a start. Obviously managers don't have to use them, but at least it would get more kids around the first teams.
When we are out of the EU we may be able to change the rules and have a min of home grown in the match day squad.Would love the FA/PL to push a new ruling squads that really promoted the bringing through of youth players. Not sure what exactly it should be, but it's desperately needed.
Surely we can kinda do that right now. If the 25 man squad rule were reduced to say 18. And the rest of your players had to be either academy graduates or U21 that would work. When we are out of the EU we may be able to change the rules and have a min of home grown in the match day squad.
This would never happened as the PL markets itself on having the best players in the world. Not sure if it would be classed as racist or something in the PC world but why can't they bring in a rule stating X number of players from the youth academy must be in the matchday squad. Possibly have 6 or 7 as the number to mitigate actually using them as opposed to being just bench warmers.
So if the 11 starters are all non academy then all the bench will need to be.
Think this might help with the introduction of the younger talented players.
It would take some time to work through though as the top teams all have masses of non academy players that have been bought in at some expense. It would certainly help the national teams to widen their pool to pick from.
I tried to find the bundesliga squad rules but couldn’t find anything definite about home grown. Does anyone know the rules. Part of our problem is that the prem lge sees itself as global and wants as many foreign stars as poss to create interest.Surely we can kinda do that right now. all of you who has better knowledge of the youth team or the championship than me, how good are CCV?
I have only seen him in a couple of pre-season games and was not impressed but at that time of year a lot of players are a bit off there game.
Maybe a minutes quota? So each club has to share at least 1/5th or a quarter of their overall game minutes, over the course of a season, between a minimum of 2-3+ youth players. Just an example but I think something like that could work. That would only be a token gesture though. As you say the players wouldn't ever be used. It would change nothing.
We need to bring the 25 man limit down and the rest of the squad be made up of academy players. And/or academy players don't count toward the limit.
Not sure a minutes quota is the right way. But being forced to have a smaller assembled squad with an open limit on additional youth players would see you use them more naturally.Maybe a minutes quota?
