Rather than waiting for the OS to update, which could be anytime between now and December, I'll take youthawk as confirmation for our next years intake, as an appropriate time to start the 17/18 youth thread. In the absence of @Spursidol who seems to have been completely removed as a user, rather than requesting someone else do it, I thought I would just start it myself. I hope he is OK.

Anyway, after the conclusion of the final youth tournament yesterday, this summer has seen an unprecedented level of success for England, in youth football and the world, and hopefully England fans have started to to take notice of the talent that has been developing in our academies.

Across the 5 tournaments England featured in - Euro u17s, Toulon (Effectively our u18s against u20s), Euro u19s, u20 World Cup and Euro u21s, we won 3, were unfortunate runner ups in one, and semi-finalists. The summer record for England is 27 games played, 23 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses (both on pens), 58 goals scored and 15 goals conceded. 2016/17 has been a great year for England and hopefully the success continues into this season.

We contributed 7 players to those tournaments and bar Griffiths all played a major part in this summers success. This leads nicely onto what we can expect for Tottenham this season.

This thread primarily follows the u21’s, u18’s and other Spurs youth teams in the various competitions and tournaments throughout the season – the u18 league, u23 league, ‘UEFA Youth League’ for u19’s and the ‘Checkatrade Trophy’, where we have been drawn in a group with, AFC Wimbledon, Barnet FC and Luton. However, this thread is also for any Spurs youth team and if you have any information about u16 to lower that you feel is worthy of sharing then please post.

As the season goes on we will no doubt enter various competitions at various age groups, and they will be posted when they are known. Otherwise if you want the current arranged fixtures go to the Official Site..

For the last week, the u18s and I think u16s have been in Belgium for a training camp. They face Millwall and Arsenal on 22nd July, attend Manchester Utd Tournament from 28th-29th July and face West Ham on 5th August.

The u23s lost to Ebbsfleet yesterday in a preseason match. Other preseason fixtures to look out for are the u23s v Cambridge United on 21st July, Tournoi, France from 27th July to 31st and we also face West Ham on 5th August.

Might as well get started.

U16 Seth Eliombu left us a season or slightly more ago and has turned up at West Ham.

I know it was reported that we'd signed young Irish defender Timi Sobowale from Villa FC after a successful trial but I've noticed that he's back with them. Now, this could just be a decision between player and club that he stays in Ireland until he leaves school but in my experience that would be very unusual. In the past when we've signed Irish youngsters they've moved over full time straight away, lodged with one of the club's associate families and trained multiple times a week. As far as I'm aware that has happened with Troy Parrott. It happened with Kenny McEvoy too.

I'm just wondering whether a deal for the player was announced in error or he did sign but got home sick and left or whether, as I postulated, we've taken the unusual step of leaving him where he is until he finishes school.

Addendum: The Irish FA list him as still being under contract with Villa (not Aston Villa) and don't mention us which, again is unusual. Ordinarily if a player, like McEvoy is registered with one club but pre-contracted with another they'll indicate that. Its a way of advertising the success of young Irish players. That is not the case with Sobowale.

Extra Addendum: Just seen him posing with Jadon Sancho (I think) in a City kit, so maybe that has something to do with it. Hmmmm

Now, this could just be a decision between player and club that he stays in Ireland until he leaves school but in my experience that would be very unusual.

The Irish FA or the FAI? The former is Northern Ireland, the latter the ROI.

I had posted about Sobowale a while ago. I think he spent the majority of last season with us, he was then in some Irish squads with Parrot then he posted a picture in a City kit saying he was grateful for past few months. So don't know if he has moved or just trialled with them, but he certainly spent a lot of time with us. Don't know if anything official was signed.
