We don't know for sure, but it seems that we can match an accepted bid, and then RM have to accept ours. Once they've done that, we have exclusivity in developing the final deal.

But Madrid still has final say on if he goes, just because we match an accepted bid if another higher bid comes in we will have to match that also. Just because we match a bid doesn't mean Madrid has to sell him.

The wages is the biggest problem. Not sure how our other players would feel with them seeing Bale on such a high salary aswell. Need to think of them also.

Hopefully we get them new deals this week.

@coopsieyid posted what looked to be the first refusal part of the contract. If a bid is accepted we can match it, no other bids can then be accepted even if more.

But Madrid still will have the final say, they could just turn around and say the player is no longer for sale, then the process would start again.

Real have already accepted the bid, so why would any club increase their bid if it has already been accepted?

Not according to the excerpt of the contract coops showed. If a bid is accepted we can match it, they have to accept ours and refuse any other bid even if higher.

I can't be arsed to faff about with a link but it's in this thread, post 1427 by Coopsieyid

"Real Madrid and the player hereby grant to Tottenham from the date hereof until June 30, 2019 an option to match any offer received from a Premier League club for the registration of the player.
"Real Madrid shall notify Tottenham the terms of any offer that it finds acceptable (a 'Third Party Offer'), and Tottenham shall thereafter have a period of 72 hours after receipt of such notification to offer to match all the terms contained in the offer to Real Madrid under the Third Party Offer.
"In the event that Tottenham does match the Third Party Offer, Real Madrid shall be required to accept Tottenham's offer in preference to any other offers received (including any higher offers received following Real Madrid's receipt of the Third Party Offer) and transfer the player as soon as is possible in the first available FA Registration Period to Tottenham pursuant to a Transfer Agreement acceptable to Tottenham in its sole discretion."

Wether it's true or not, who knows? :sour:

Bale has said he is looking at his position, the transfer window is open, there is a clause that we can match a successful bid. Bale moving to Tottenham is a possibility (however slim). It is not a fact that it's never going to happen

All of that is evidence that he might be moving, not that he'll be coming back to us.

If you want hard and fast evidence, on ANY transfer, what on earth are you doing here? Apart from trolling the place with wankfest this, psychiatrist that and generally pissing people off by being a bit of a knob.

And that's my job.

More to it than matching a bid. As I said, as we are being led to believe. Love it to happen. But nigh on impossibility-Opinion
Only way I could see it is if we lost someone going the otherway.. even at that, financial risk with Bale injury record...don't know can we gamble like that? Or would it be wise to do so..

We don't know, but that's not te way people are describing it. Once RM (or anyone) have accepted a bid, from anyone, they are obliged to see that through to the end. If no final agreement is reached, then they open it up again. Our deal means that, in effect, they cannot accept a bid from anyone until they've given us first refusal. The whole point of this type of agreement is to stop a bidding war.

Currently Poch is building a TEAM ethos & those that don't buy into it go, but would putting in someone like Bale into the squad destroy the balance of the squad?

Not saying I wouldn't want him, but he's pretty much a superstar, so could we cope with having him back?

Can Tottenham Hotspur put in a bid for Bale, yes. Therefore it's a possibility. Saying something is factual when there's a possibility it's not, makes it not a fact.

You're more than welcome to claim that it is very unlikely, most will agree with you, including me.

Claiming as you have done, that it won't happen is your opinion not a fact

Don't see why he should destroy the balance of the squad. He's not an ego maniac as far as i'm aware.

But Real can encourage a bidding war before formally accepting an offer and triggering our clause.
