My opinion is he’s going until we have any ITK or something that says otherwise I think he’s gone.

It’s silent at the moment

I would assume that any leverage Poch had over Levy and him fulfilling the “promises” made about signing players that disappeared when the contract was signed is now back firmly in Poch’s pocket. After signing the contract, I worried that Levy would simply go back to his usual ways and slow play all transfers because he had Poch locked up. Maybe now this will get Levy to be more aggressive and give Poch what he wants in the transfer market regardless of the contract.

Poch is probably going to Barcelona soon for his summer holiday.

That should probably quiet the rumour mill.

Worried, how many people turn down Real Madrid?

It's like turning down the hottest girl at school.

Exactly. I suspect that any 'informal agreement' and 'those close to the Argentinian' are quite possibly figments of imagination.

Yep. They’ve just made that up. How would they know unless Poch or levy told them personally which neither man is likely to do.

It's business, it's just business. We all behave as if Pochettino, Levy, Bale, Eriksen, Kane and all football profiles are emotionally, idealistically driven people just because Tottenham is emotional to us. And as much as they are emotionally invested too, to them, at the end of the day, it's business, not personal. So what if you signed a contract a week ago, what is the actual, practical, rational difference between that and a contract from last month, last 6 months, last year, last two years? It's all the same, it's a piece of paper that can be ended for a fee. That's all that it is, there are no different set of rules just because the contract happens to be freshly signed.

Yeah fine. Was wondering why it was nostalgic.

Sometimes the hottest girl at school is a real bitch, and you know she is going to dump you in a couple of months - so, yeah, timing is everything. If its toward the end of school - go for it. If you still have many months to go - you don't want to be the guy who is dumped, and then has nobody at the end of the year.

Only the people bright enough to realize the hottest girl in school is batty and they don’t want to deal with the headaches associated with her. I have no onion on Poch staying or going (other than wanting him to stay). He seems a bright guy and would be questionable to trade in all the capital he’s earned at Spurs to have Daniel’s ear for a position just left vacant because the manager had no say in the squad composition (per unquoted reports).

Lets get one thing correct...Even the Madrid media got a shocker today. No one expected his decision that was announced today. So, its not like Zidane would have called Poch to give him a lead time so he doesnt sign the contract.

And again, most Spurs including me also believes Poch will stay. But when you have the best European club making you the number 1 target and you have a ambition to manage them, its not a easy decision. Considering we lost Bale after months of propaganda, we cannot take this easily.

Unless Poch comes out tomorrow & says no thanks, this story has the merit. More days Poch isnt going to talk about it, more the speculation will grow. Unfortunately this is off season, so we cannot know what he thinks quickly.

This is the last thing we need this summer. Like it or not, its going to be difficult few days/weeks ahead for us

It also plays havoc with trying to get the other lads to sign new contracts

There might not be anything to provide any ITK on. Bearing in mind that Poch and our top players will ALWAYS be linked to other clubs, I think that people just need to stop getting flustered about it.

Are we still talking about Pochettino and Madrid? :shifty:

Riiigghtt.

I'm sure Levy went to the trouble of getting his legal team to draw up a contract worth over £40mil to keep Poch at the club, didn't include a release clause and then, with himself & Poch both needing to read and sign the contract that ensures Poch doesn't leave the club in the immediate future (that the article says is protected) they both informally agree that it'll be OK to leave if Madrid come in, even if it's after just 1 week.

Sounds perfectly feasible.
There is no such thing as a contract that ensures that a manager doesn't leave a club. Contracts can be bought out at any time.

Hypothetically, let's say that Poch was aware that he was Perez's top choice for the Madrid job if Zidane were to leave, and told Levy that he wanted assurances he'd be allowed to take the job if it came open or else he wouldn't sign the contract. In the eventuality that Poch signed the contract but still went to Madrid, Spurs would stand to get something like 42m more from the buyout of the new contract than the buyout of the old.

You really think Daniel Levy is going to risk Poch not renewing his contract, and potentially forgo 42 million pounds, over a stubborn refusal to give Poch his word that he can leave for a job he would have taken regardless?

Honestly some are too confident, I'd imagine its 50/50 right now, if they really go for him it'll be hard to keep him. And if he goes, expect to see major players look for the exit

Yeah but wasn't it common knowledge that playing for Real Madrid was a boyhood dream for Bale? Can't say that I was surprised that he wanted to go. Not saying that Poch isn't ambitious but I am not sure that Bale and Poch merit a comparison.

Yeah, but most (all?) of the ITK we got was positive he was staying.
