Would be a hell of a job for Poch.

Could you see the likes of Ramos, Ronaldo etc. responding to him? Not sure I could. I just don't think it's a good fit. I could see him having an iffy first season and getting the boot.

I'm not saying he won't want to go but it's a silly move in the head anyway, whether he might be tempted in the heart I don't know.

I imagine if/as soon as we make a big signing Poch will come out and talk about how he's focused on the job.

The other factor is that Poch is so young for a manager, means that the big Madrid job will be around for many many years to come - I don't think he'll see it as a rush.

I'm in under no illusion that Poch won't stay with us forever and reject ALL advances but I do think he's smart enough in the sense that he needs to strengthen his hand first (win stuff) before he decides it's time to try a top job.

Just as a fun little 'scenario game'...

Would you allow Poch to go to Madrid if it meant Bale coming back to us?
Nope.

We had Bale once before and lacked a lot.
Since we've had Poch we've changed entirely. Good chance we revert back to previous Bale days without a manager like him.

You and I - we have a different definition of "fun"

But, in a word - hell no!

Because when we lose Poch, we will see Eriksen, Dele, and Kane follow out the door within the next year. Then it will be Bale and the 7 Dwarves - and he will bugger off for United. And we got nothing but a half-empty new stadium with a micro-brewery.

Well according to article they claim a Poch source said there is a informal agreement. Jack is a very good journalist who has broken lot of good exclusives... so I wouldn’t poo poo it yet. It may come down to how much bad Madrid want him to deal with Levy.

He is but Delaney wrote it too and he’s a complete chancer. JPB is also a Chelsea fan don’t forget.

signing the contract days before the CL final when there was always the possibility that Zidane might go makes no sense. If he was seriously interested he would have waited.

Had he not signed I would be bricking it now, but he did sign it......a week ago....so I'm not

I think that's one reason, yes. The only other reason is that Madrid would pay so much that it ended up making sense to Levy. Which I don't think they will at this point..

Mate, when you're moving into a stadium that has cost over £800mil to construct and about to embark on what is undoubtedly the most important phase of the clubs development in recent history, if not it's entire history, there will be no amount that will make sense. Especially to Levy.

Think about it. The most important thing for the whole outlay for that to make financial sense, and not let it ultimately drag you under, is to remain consistently competitive in / for CL football. This is something that Poch has unquestionably achieved.

So, taking into account. If you were Daniel Levy, and were as business savvy as Daniel Levy is. Would you be able to make sense of banking what, £50mil? , but then having to bring in a new manager & start from scratch again on the pitch?

And then potentially have to look to replace the likes of Lloris, Eriksen, Vertonghen (who have all publicly stated Poch's importance) ?

So, taking that into account. Do you really believe that there's a sum that Madrid could offer that would make sense to Levy?

Don't think he's being forced out at all. Think he's going out on top realizing he can't live up to those same expectations every year.

even if he was sacked I doubt we will ever know. they most probably came to a mutual agreement and to stop it looking embarrassing decided to announce it as he decided to leave. who would want to go there and win a CL final with the prospect of being sacked with in a week

Looking at what? You don't think there was any cost involved with Pochettino ending his contract with Southampton? :wideyed: Got it.
Mate, according to the media at the time he resigned. I was told to find reports of it, I did.

Pointless discussion anyway. If he really wants Madrid he will get Madrid. You can't have an unhappy manager at a club. Undermines his position.

I think Poch wants to build something like Fergie did at United. RM only keep their coaches a couple of years and they fire them for not winning the CL or the title. Poch will never be given the time he has with us. I also believe he genuinely loves the club and likes building teams, not buying a squad full of superstars.

Thats obvious the whole thing is Madrid testing the water, trying to stoke something. Its beneficial for Poch's side even if he does want to stay, gives him more leverage.

Hopefully the reaction will be Levy pulling all the stops to keep Poch happy

If Poch goes there Madrid's players will not play his tactics (high energy press), and he'll be sacked after 1 year for coming 2nd.

Imagine being a football journalist and typing the phrase "informal agreement with Daniel Levy" in earnest. How do these people think our chairman operates, anyway?

FWIW, I don't think he'll leave, but if he does, so be it. It would definitely hurt our progress, but no one's bigger than the club, the manager included.

Well I’m worried and I’m surprised more people aren’t. We’ve been here before and seen the juggernaut that Real Madrid in action first hand when they wanted Bale.

That summer started with such optimism, but every day was a new story declaring how much he wanted the move... still we were optimistic then eventually the inevitable happened.

I hope I’m wrong I really do because I’d be devastated... they always get what they want CNUTS

The Guardian running along the same lines as The Independent but claim Perez is already seeking to contact Poch about the job.

https://amp.theguardian.com/football/2018/may/31/real-madrid-mauricio-pochettino-tottenham

Slight difference in that the article seemingly denies the existence of any agreement.

Its obvious that Madrid want him, and the media campaign has began. I just hope no one bites. It would be such a disaster for all sides. I fully believe that.
