Another way of looking at this is that Toby will be a year older and may not regain his form of 2 years ago; so if Manure wants to risk 25 million on him, let them do so. Also, they might not , particularly with Maureen, want to wait a year and go out for another CD if we don't let Toby join them now without the reciprocal trade.

Well they're also linked with Lenglet and Skriniar so may be the case.

Although I admitted I've seen little of Martial, I can't agree that he's struggled in the PL. He's struggled with Mourinho being anti-football & hating all things attacking. You only have to read the article on the post in which I asked for more details about Martial's abilities. It's only from October, so literally the season just finished.

5 goals & 6 assists in his first 9 appearances of the season, only for Mourinho to remember he doesn't like exciting players, and the rest is history.

You do not score 5 goals and get 6 assists in 9 games if you're struggling to adapt to the league. The lad has simply been treated like shit.
Well if he does come in, I certainly hope you are correct (y)

Superb player imo, smashes it when he comes on as sub, ("as sub" which in itself is diabolical) season before he was fantastic. We'll get better mate...as "sure thing" as I can muster.(y)

This could be the signing of the season for us. He has bags of talent, and has proved that he can do it in the PL. If there is a chance we have to go balls deep to get him.

Struggled under Jose but was their top scorer under lvg 16 goals iirc from the wing at the age of twenty in his first season in the prem that’s pretty impressive

We must feel encouraged to be still pursuing him. If United were simply not responding to any contact then you would think we'd move on. It's going to be a game of who blinks first and come down to how much United want Toby. Hopefully Mourinho will get frustrated and tell Woodward to get it done, he will want his first picks in as early as possible. Soon as they come in strong for Toby we can demand Martial is sent in return...................unless of course Jose has other options he'd be happy to turn to.

Can't see us getting Martial and Bailey. Doesn't make sense. Martial first choice, it seems.

If we want the fluidity like City (which herc has mentioned more than once) then it makes perfect sense. I dont expect both though
What both means is that we don't think our options are good enough and we need to sell one or two. But no chance that happens.

I think Maureen would be pissed with Lenglet or Skriniar, particularly the latter. Lenglet has serious potential and is a left sided player, which United need IMO, but is yet another 22 year old to go with Lindelof and Bailly, who are themselves struggling to gain Maureen's confidence and also very young, while the rest of the players United are being linked with this summer are older, solidly experienced and in their prime, like Willian and Arnautovic.

I think our hand is stronger here than people realize. What Maureen wants is that one experienced central defender who is already world class and ready to compete for a title this season and be the leader of the back line. Maureen doesn't think three seasons ahead, let alone two seasons. He doesn't think about re-sale value or youth development. If he did, he'd be playing Bailly every game the way we play Davinson, accepting the occasional mistake to help a massively talented young player reach his potential.

And yes, I would be 100% okay with missing out on an extra 25M and keeping Toby until next summer and letting him join United then. He would be tremendous depth for us for a PL title and CL run this season and would send a powerful message to the squad that Spurs mean to win trophies now, not just develop and sell players over and over again in an endless cycle.

If Herc's "meh" attacking midfielder proves correct, isn't that Martial ruled out? Or is he only considered a winger / backup striker?

Would be a seriously exciting, and needed imo, signing.

Would really round out our attacking depth.

This. Mourinho prefers to have ready made players as he has no intention of being patient with the learning curve of these types, that's why they haven't come in for De Ligt. His only intention is to win, everything else is redundant to him.

If he has is eyes solely on Toby, then we have a shot at Martial.

Yeah, I mean look at what has happened to Inter since he left. He spent a bunch of money on older established players with no resale value, won a treble and then left and it all blew up and they've been in financial ruin ever since. Don't think ManU have to worry about financial ruin but he cares about results now not the long term health of the club. This is for sure Woodward not wanting to sell to us rather than Mourinho.

Yep. My worry is if Woodward is street smart enough to know United fans will be seriously annoyed if they let him leave to another PL club. It may come down to Mourinho and Woodward butting heads and Woodward being prepared to put it on the line and give in to his manager because let's face it, Woodward will be the one left to take the flak as Mourinho will be long gone should Martial turn into the player everyone thinks he could.

Which is highly likely because Mourinho has a habit of not getting the best out of objectively great players before selling them and they go on to be hugely successful elsewhere.
