He's not really a kid though is he?
I've not followed any of this thread so didn't know it was serious but I remember him a couple of years ago and I was extremely impressed with him but people questioned his attitude, mind you in the clusterfuck that was Aston Villa at that time I'm not sure my attitude would have been much better. If he has grown up and has a better attitude I'm all for bringing him in, I think he'll make the bench without a doubt.
When healthy who isn't on the bench then? We have one CB, one fullback, goalie, striker, then Winks, Wanyama, Lamela and Lucas all fighting for a spot on the bench. One of those group won't even make it. I struggle to see who he gets in over.

It has been alluded to by itk that we might have to get creative with cm signings if we are spending 50m + on a couple of other signings.

I did not watch a lot of Villa matches this year - I checked in occasionally to see if Josh was playing - but this was my observation after watching the Championship play-off against Fulham:

I think this kind of deal makes sense - he has room to grow, and I think his upside is that of a player capable of taking over for Eriksen in a few years.

My view of Grealish will probably always be tainted by seeing him passed out in the street in Tenerife, but I think he has the talent to succeed here.
We have to remember he was 19 at the time and he's got himself focused and really grafted, many over the years would have continued with the mistakes.

Which is so incredibly frustrating because that is without a doubt our biggest need and we're saving that one to get creative on.

You're ok spending 20 mil on a kid who when our squad is healthy doesn't make the bench? Thats what we should keep Onomah for not spend a chunk of money on.

I am yeah. This kid was keeping Onomah catching splinters last season, has played 5 years of senior football and as highly rated as he might be by us, I've seen nothing to suggest yet that he's going to be better.

The idea that, after a few years of relative success and with the impending stadium, we should entirely adjust the type of players we pursue and only go for top shelf, more established, or even just more highly fancied in certain circles, costlier players is just really really silly.

YES, constant CL qualification and a bigger stadium should hopefully open us up to spending a fee and wages on the odd player here and there, of the type and quality that we haven't been able to before, but it should not have us entirely ignoring and scrapping what got us to party. Poch.

We have a coach that excels and loves to work with young and hungry players, and who has shown that he can vastly improve them. They have comprised large parts of our recent teams and they have come on small fees, different leagues, lower leagues etc etc. There is a pattern of cleverly bought AND/OR young UK players ( some from within ) becoming mainstays in our match squads. Rose, Walker, Trippier, Dele, Kane, Davies, Winks, Dier all fall under this in some way or the other and a lot have become the best player in their position for their country.

People want us to stop buying this type of player, but then they may also state that Poch should not go to Madrid because the players there wouldn't accept his coaching methods. His methodology and having players he feels will follow that, is what is key to us maintaining our level and hopefully pushing it even further.

We continue to do what we do on that front at the same time as hopefully bringing in a few more higher shelf Davinson Sanchez level of talents/ 1-2 Martial levels of player and the associated costs that go with that, that we can now afford.

Why people would want us to completely stop doing the other and mining for young hungry players that will fit into Poch's squad and allow him to do what he does best, I have no idea.

I saw a comment about Dele being only 5m and Grealish 20m OMG OMG. To be honest, Dele was obviously a super steal of the highest order but in todays climate there isn't vast swathes of difference in the two prices as much as it pains me to say that.

He hasn't looked exceptional against Real Madrid yet I'll just say that. But yeah he's more of an attacking mid than a CM like winks.
....and whose to say Grealish can't one day turn in a performance like that against a big European team because I'm sure plenty of people in world football thought 'who is Winks?" and that he wouldn't be capable due to inexperience.

All the guy asked was how they compared and I'm trying to say I don't think they can really be compared at this point as we've seen Winks show his quality against the best team in the world. Can't say the same for Grealish.

We may get an 8. I've seen nothing to suggest getting Grealish on the cheap means we won't then get a midfielder.
Don't you think Herc just told us it was 20 mil though? I don't know if thats cheap.. He said Pulisic was 60, and asked if we thought there was a 40mil difference between the two.

20m is cheap imo.
Man I disagree with that.. Maybe in the giant scheme of things with what City and United will pay for players but when we're talking about having to get creative on our CM target, I think 20 mil out of the budget here is a major mistake.

Of course you struggle, you obviously don't rate him but in the last two years we have lost three of those four for getting on for at least half a season and more with injury so the question that begins with "if healthy" must be hypothetical.
