Well this is it, what is the price. I don't think anyone wants to see us blow £40m on him but if it's a cheap price, I don't see what the problem with the signing is.
This is one of those divisive ones. If we sign him there will be two camps, bickering for ever about the merits or lack of and it'll be everywhere. The match threads will have a new member of the scapegoat society.

That is a good season. But it's still the Championship and his previous season there wasn't too good. Maybe the switched has flipped and this is his standard now. I'm not sure. I just don't want to go into the season with him as the main back-up to one of our key players. I think we can do better.

That doesn't mean I don't think we should take a gamble on him if the price is right.

I'd say putting those stats up in an inferior footballing team to us, with inferior team mates, in a physical league where there is less free flowing football is actually a positive.

Plus as I've said before Terry was bigging him up saying he is England level and has everything. I hate the guy but he must know talent...

This has to be a Levy special, surely. I’m unconvinced we’d go as high as £25m on this kid, even in this market.

You may well prove correct. But unlike Sissoko, Grealish doesn't hide from the ball, can beat a man and spot a pass.

So if that's the quality of the player that divides our fans, we'll definitely have upgraded. :)

In my opinion this kid is similar, but inferior, to Maddison

Not thrilled, but then surely the club knows better than I do

When our squad is healthy Sissoko doesn't make the bench and neither would this kid.

Then it can't be 'healthy' too often as he made loads of appearances last season. You've clearly made your mind up already so don't worry about trying to understand it. As long as Poch is happy, I'm happy

Just reading the Grealish thread on villatalk and the are devestated that he’s going which makes me think he must be pretty good after all they watch him every week.

Also a lot of posters saying that Spurs is the perfect club for him to go to because how we are with young English players and our manager...

Well apart from one poster who said he thinks we are direct rivals

I’m fine with bringing in a young talented midfielder for depth and eventual starting places. But my issue is if he is the only center mid we buy this window. I’m sure he’s good, but we need a dembele type replacement.

You're ok spending 20 mil on a kid who when our squad is healthy doesn't make the bench? Thats what we should keep Onomah for not spend a chunk of money on.

He's a number 10.

Herc's post in the ITK thread has me worried that he's seen as a potential CM option rather than (or in addition to?) an Eriksen backup. I have no problem with him slotting into Eriksen's position, dropping deep and making up a CM3 when it's called for, but we really need a top player to replace Dembele IMO. Still perfectly fine with this signing as long as we also bring in an out-and-out CM.

Don't know how get the image to work like Tiger did, but for comparison.

I know they're not like for like, but it shows that poor players can still put up good stats in the Championship and it won't necessarily transfer to a higher level.

There's also the "Schroedinger's Salah" - those who exist both in a state of "We'd better not fucking spend £30m on him" and yet, if he signed for someone else at that price and tore it up, "We should have stumped up the cash for him. Clearly a bargain. We have no ambition".

He's not really a kid though is he?
I've not followed any of this thread so didn't know it was serious but I remember him a couple of years ago and I was extremely impressed with him but people questioned his attitude, mind you in the clusterfuck that was Aston Villa at that time I'm not sure my attitude would have been much better. If he has grown up and has a better attitude I'm all for bringing him in, I think he'll make the bench without a doubt.

I did not watch a lot of Villa matches this year - I checked in occasionally to see if Josh was playing - but this was my observation after watching the Championship play-off against Fulham:

Can't stand Grealish - but he has been the best player on the pitch today

I think this kind of deal makes sense - he has room to grow, and I think his upside is that of a player capable of taking over for Eriksen in a few years.

My view of Grealish will probably always be tainted by seeing him passed out in the street in Tenerife, but I think he has the talent to succeed here.
