Pretty underwhelming if this is Poch’s idea of being brave!?!

I think all our best players could have been seen as underwhelming at some stage.

Just read the first few pages of the Alderweireld thread for reference.
Or when Danny Rose signed his contract extension when Davies signed.
Or any assessment of Kane before slotted into our first 11 like a dream.
Or Eriksen when his first signed.
Or Dele. Or Dier. Or Son.
Absolutely NONE of these signings or players from our youth blew anyone away but they're now all a crucial part of the fabric of our club.

Most of what's great about this club has been viewed as 'underwhelming' but they're all now indispensable.

It is quite brave buying a championship player with potential believing you can help him become top level.

We're close to signing Grealish whilst Liverpool agree a £53 million deal for Fekir. Personally I am not against us signing Grealish but the idea that Poch wanted us to be brave and sign players to take that next step, Grealish doesn't exactly fall in that category. Whilst Liverpool are being brave.

I know spending obscene amounts of money isn't guaranteed success but they're making a real effort!

That is because they want to have a go at winning the league

Small Levy doesn't even want to try

Might be wrong but i bet he really wants to win the league.

Just don't think he is allowed the budget. We also have other things going on.

Lilywhite Rose on twitter mentioned something about Onomah going the other way too and he has some youth connections.

I thought we just had ITK that the club likes Josh - why would they banish him to Villa in that case?

If I were a player, I would not want anything to do with Villa until they get their finances sorted, and the threat of administration is eased.

However, from the ITK rumblings we've had I am very concerned that CM seems to have taken a back seat. I just think Poch is a bit blind to our problems moving the ball in midfield effectively.
I agree a hundred percent on this. The CM situation is the most acute together with a CB if Toby leaves. When Dembele did not play this season we were really struggling. This is were we need to buy quality. Maybe Grealish is viewed to be versatile and can play booth in Dembeles role and Eriksens? But for me I think we need something much much better in the CM position.
This is very central. If they feel that we are to predictable on the pitch, the answer to that isn't even more AMs. We already have more than we can effectively utilise regularly. The way to combat out predictable and stale attack is to sign truly good CM reinforcements. That's where the magical fluidity would be created.

And you then argue with Poch!
I wouldn't mind that actually. He is a man, not a demi-god. I'd take a discussion with him over transfers any day.

With all due respect, Hercs, I double love poch, but I'm not totally convinced of his nose for forward players.

I sincerely hope he gets it right this summer.
Yeah, people have given me shit all day about saying this kid isn't going to play given the current roster. I've gotten a bunch of response saying oh yeah I'm sure the manager doesn't know how much he'll play but you do. Pretty sure Poch had a plan for Nkoudou, Njie, Llorente, Janssen as well..

To be fair, Eriksen was viewed as one of europes biggest prospects. I was not active on SC when we signed him but all the supporters I knew at that time was very excited about the signing. There were alot of big clubs after him.

Maybe Grealish is Poch’s dream signing, who knows. Surely he wasn’t naive enough to think we’d actually follow through with the huge signings.

Maybe he will be decent, and he fits our MO, however we were led to believe we were gonna change it up to try and really compete for titles. It seems we’re doing very much the same things as before which has served us well generally in getting to where we have but left us ever so short at squeaky bum time.

There will be money spent don't worry about that. As I keep saying though the value is there at the back end of the window, not now. Last couple or so weeks of the window is where we will be doing the bulk of our business.

agree with all of those save Eriksen, who was widely viewed as a star in the making in Europe.
