As I said mate, I'm very sure we will be spending more on players, our wage budget will increase substantially, agents fess have gone up etc, etc, etc. Yes our turn over has increased but it's still nothing like our competitors and that's a fact.

Anyhow back to Grealish.......
Our turnover is now at similar levels to Arsenal and Liverpool. It may take 12 months to validate this with public data but our gate receipts will exceed Arsenal given our capacity and our ticket prices and they have the highest gate receipts in world football.

I've never seen one of Liverpool's signings play (that's a slight lie, as i watched our matches against Monaco but don't remeber Fabihano(sp?) Performance). Saying that i am sadly jealous because of the uproar on here.
Regarding Grealish, i think he would be an excellent signing who would play a considerable amount of games for us over a season. I Truly think by season's end he'll be a fan favorite.

I agree that £15m-£20m is a decent-ish deal in this market and I think he’s a ok prospect but my problem with it is that I don’t think he’s a priority unless we’re selling one of Lamela or Lucas as they can over Eriksen if needs be.

I keep seeing this and it's simply not true. I like both players, however they cannot do what Eriksen does. Just like no one could do what Modric does. We need something different in there to what we already have. I'm not saying Grealish is as good, but he can break the lines further up the pitch and has an eye for a pass.

Lamela hasn't been close enough to doing that even though he tries, and Moura is a dribbler more than a passer

Yes back to Grealish.

Surely I can't be the only one who is worried about our CM next season. Players like Grealish just aren't going to help us take a step up next season.

You look at City going for Jorginho and Liverpool signing Fekir and Keita..

I don't buy it that this is who Poch had in mind when he wanted us to be brave this summer. This is a purely opportunistic signing which we never would have gone for if Villa had got promoted which is reason enough to be disappointed.

Dembele can't hack the PL anymore. Winks is always injured and yet to show he is good enough to be a regular starter. Wanyama had a really poor injury disrupted season. Our options are really limited there.

Do we really think the likes of Kane, Alli, Rose, Eriksen are going to be excited at the club's ambition for signing Grealish?

I know the time to judge the window is at the end of it but it seems this window is same old spurs. You can't help but look at Liverpool who are our closest competitor and admire how they are doing their business. Buying proven CL level quality players early on. It can be done. Poch has even spoken publicly numerous times about getting players in early yet now we hear our business will get done at the end of the window like usual.

Players get no time to bed in for preseason so we never see their best for at least 12 months but we save a few quid. Great. How expensive are our STs again?

This post will be passed over by a lot on here because it doesn't suit, which is a shame. With large agent fees comes large signing on fees something else that will be ignored because it doesn't odds the net spend.

So? If our rivals pay more in agents fees to enable them to sign top players early fair play to them. I wish we did the same. What are Spurs? A bastion of football? Why do we feels it's beneath us to grease the wheels as much as the other big clubs?

It's the nature of the game and you either get involved or you don't. We pay far more for tickets yet Liverpool as a club can easily find the cash to pay agents to get deals done, whereas we can't? It doesn't add up. I'm not really fussed if it takes a big signing on fee to sign top players, if it's a player we want just get it done. It won't bankrupt us, we aren't that precarious.

Grealish is a player we want. Poch wants him. So why do you have an issue with us buying him? Because you don't rate him? So your ire should be directed at Poch for wanting him surely? Not at the club for how much they charge for season tickets.

I'm not sure why we're getting mention of Liverpool.

They haven't signed Fekir yet. His agent has been adamant he's not going anywhere til after the WC but even so.....that dude had a very serious injury not too long ago that kept him out for a LONG time. He's a talented player but so was GKN for Marseille before he joined us. As was N'Jie for Lyon. There are no guarantees when signing any player and least of all splurging 50m (plus agent fees) for a player that has done nothing outside of the French league.

Grealish might not be the big name that we were all hoping for but he also won't be the only player we sign this summer. It strikes me that there's an opportunity to sign a young, talented, english player for a much lower fee than he would normally go for. He has the potential to be excellent and if it doesn't pan out then we have thrown a shit ton of cash at it in the first place.

As much as we want to be going toe to toe with the other top 5 clubs for new players, we're simply not there yet and likely won't be until we've been in the new stadium for at least a year or two, maybe not ever.

Being savvy with our transfer business is the only thing we can control right now. We need to get used to that and hey, if we add Grealish and then manage to add Martial as well, I would personally see that as very good business.

Getting tiresome reading this in every thread to justify having a moan about a player people don't want.

Oh I want him don't get me wrong. A good squad addition and in a year or two might be starter if we are lucky but where are the players to take us higher and closer to our goals of trophies? I want to see us acting like a CL club and signing CL players from other clubs. Signings that improve our first 11.

Clearly you don’t watch a lot of European football if you don’t think Fekir, Keita & Fabinho walk into our team. Credit where it’s due LFC have done their homework on European players & signed up 3 already who’ve got a far higher ceiling to reach as yet.

Back on track regarding Grealish. Is he better than what we have already? If the answer is ‘No’ to that question then why the hell we signing him as we clearly need players to improve our first team (Dembele & Son/Lamela)

Keita - Granted, especially with Dembele on his way out.
Fekir - Would be a good signing for us but to say he'd walk in ahead of Eriksen (or Dele) is pushing it massively
Fabinho - Quality DM with great mobility but not sure he's any better than a fit Wanyama, and Mourinho wanted Dier ahead of Fabinho last summer IIRC.

The key issue is it massively upgraded them, not whether they'd walk into our first XI.

Grealish is a talented young homegrown player (exactly the profile that Poch improves) and fills a gap in our squad, but more importantly it's good value for a lower priority addition. Assuming he is the secondary CM signing this window that is probably our 4th priority signing behind WF/ST, CM and CB (if Toby goes).

We used to be amongst the highest payers of agents fees but not anymore for whatever reason. I suspect it’s that we are putting it towards the new stadium rather than agents pockets or perhaps even players wages.

I agree though about Grealish. It feels more opportunistic rather than being number one on poch’s list for central midfield.

fair point but then i dont think our spend is that high on agents, from memory about 10m per year
and i suppose liverpool would argue they got players that got to a CL final

My issue is he isn't top quality, he isn't CL level by far yet. I saw him in the promotion final and he looked only decent but nowhere near the level we need to push on. Many Fulham players stood out far better on the day like Cairney. Just look at our competition for Grealish. Leicester and West Ham etc

I also refuse to believe Poch sat there in May and when drawing up a list of targets to improve us to win the title he came up with Jack Grealish. I'm sorry but no.

Poch is being courted by Real Madrid but wants to stay at Spurs because we sign players like Grealish. I don't buy it. The window hasn't closed so we can only react to the window as it unfolds so noone is throwing their toys out the pram but it will be absolutely criminal if we don't sign genuine top class players who immediately come into the squad and make us so much stronger. Martial would do that. De Ligt should do that.
As ever we wait but some of us feel this window is exactly like the old ones when we thought it would finally be different and we'd act like one of the big boys.

Anyway here's hoping!
