Honestly have a read of page 670 and beyond on their forum. They LOVE HIM. gets me a little more excited at the prospect of signing him.

Always worth seeing what the opinion is amongst those who actually watch a player week in, week out.

Very easy for fans to get excited over highlight reels and MOTD showings but you need to see a player in a decent chunk of 90min games to really see what they're about.

I agree - their fan opinion seems to bode very well if we are moving ahead with this. Key for me is still a) that Poch wants him and b) he comes on board to work hard and develop. He's got decent potential.

Seems like we might benefit from their problems but I can't help feeling sad to see a club like Villa caught up in such a financial shit storm.

I read somewhere in the last couple of days that things are so bad (now the money has stopped coming from China and they didn't get promoted) they are selling off a patch of land next to the stadium for hopefully a million or so - it was used as the ground staff car park.

The reprieve from the taxman is only temporary, monthly paye/Nic monies will still be due.

Exactly, even clearing the outstanding HMRC debt doesn't actually help them much.

There'll be a VAT return due before long, and really the only way to bring themselves back into liquidity long-term will be to sell off their valuable assets (such as Grealish), and reduce their regular wage bill substantially.

They may want to hold out for £40m for Grealish but in reality they may not be able to afford to wait.

Sad state of affairs and it must be terrible for their fans, but great for bespectacled, bald-headed circling vultures with a lust for transfer window bargains.

Without going too off topic - it shows that the commercials of modern football aren't the be all and end all as plenty of long-standing clubs have landed in this type of mess.

The trends of buying players from europe and paying wages beyond club means have gotten a lot of clubs into trouble. Bringing your own players through (i.e. Grealish, in an attempt to get back on course) represents solid business in so many ways - cheaper wages (at least initially), lower fees in terms of buying players and at the end, you can always sell the odd player for decent money which covers some of the buys/wages elsewhere. Hard to compete using that model initially but it makes so much sense for clubs at the lower end of the foodchain to build around this model - IMHO at least.

Problems of their own making trying to do a newcastle and bounce straight back rather than cutting costs to meet ffp.

There really should be relegation clauses in players contract that they take a paycut of say 40% off of anything over £20k a week rather than parachute payments.

He seems the type to leave it all out on the pitch which the villa fans appreciate & he clearly has talent to beat a man & spot a pass. If he's matured & is hungry to learn & improve as reports suggest plus the added benefit of being home grown I hope we get this deal done asap. Any opportunity to grab a bargain in this crazy market can only help towards other targets & it's low risk as even if he doesn't work out he would likely be good enough for the next tier of clubs below us, even Villa might take him back if they sort themselves out in the next few years. After the initial suprise, it seems a good deal to me.

Honestly - should make people appreciate the financial discipline that Levy shows.

Chelsea, Man City, Leeds, Brighton, Villa, all big clubs in some cases very big yet all nearly disappeared through financial incompetence. Yet it seems impossible to fail the FA tests for ownership .

What are the tests for ownership and when were they brought in?

I agree that it's sad to see this happen to big, established clubs, and I really feel for the Villa fans...

*BUT* I still can't wait for Abramovic to get bored of the Chelsea experiment and let those bastards go down the drain.

That won’t happen. They’re not just very attractive to potential buyers, they’re very self-sustaining with a good number of high-value assets and a very well-run business model financially. Their loan system isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (it certainly isn’t mine) but anyone who thinks that they’re still reliant on Roman to remain one of the big 6 is deluding themselves. They’re a big name in their own right worldwide now sadly.

Should be mandatory enforced by the FA, time and time again it cripples clubs.

I doubt the FA can legally enforce an employee of a club taking a wage cut if they drop a division.
You might be right, but i am sure they were talking wage caps at one stage which would kind of fit with the enforcement aspect.

It might be unicorns but clubs need to be much smarter, 10 years in the prem is no guarantee you will be there nex season and if you dont bounce up your fucked most of the time.

They can say what has to be part of the contract. Ok instead of thinking it as a paycut there is a bonus payment for the team being in the pl. The players don't get this bonus if relegated.

Jack Grealish's Aston Villa future to be decided on Tuesday

A decision on Jack Grealish's Aston Villa future will be made on Tuesday as the club choose who stays and who goes this summer.

As concerns over Villa's perilous financial state continue, Steve Bruce will receive details of his annual transfer and wage budget - and with it, the likelihood that his £30m-rated midfielder will need to be sold to help balance the books.
