A point was made in the ITK thread that the money saved by dealing late could get us an extra player. That's a fair enough point to make in theory. The problem is the reality is often very different from what we want to do. If a deal falls through in the final hours it becomes very difficult to rectify and move onto alternatives. Examples include Moutinho, Berahino, Leandro and probably countless others that we aren't aware of. These signings would have been core pieces of business, left to the last second.
Inevitably we always end up a player or two short and that costs us during the season. Last season was a winger. To his credit though Levy did get the deal done in January, which I did not expect.
No matter who we buy our fans will still think we are a player or two short.
