Still doesn't change my key question....why are three of these spots occupied by keepers then?
Vorm was a good servant but having this worry I would think of replacing him with a keeper that does not need one of the 17 spots.
I agree 100% that our third choice keeper should be homegrown. The only logic I've got to that is that Pochettino sees Gazzaniga as a good young goalkeeper who could step up to being 2nd of 1st choice when the time is right and Vorm moves on/ Lloris moves on.

If he is only ever going to be a 3rd choice keeper having one of the non homegrown quotas for him really does make squad selection harder than it needs to be

Coco is definitely a ten. Would really like to see him there.

This was always a transfer we could allow to run until deadline day. The fact we haven't signed anyone else just has us more anxious to get this one done. I see him as an alternative to Eriksen but someone who can start in a central 3 with Eriksen should we switch to a back 3 with wingbacks. Lamela definitely plays better between the lines and arriving into the box like Alli does. I think even Moura does that well too when he plays more central. We just need someone else like Eriksen who can get his head up and pick them out.

Certainly agree about Lamela playing more centrally this season. He may have been more of a winger in Serie A but he's never been great in that role for us. Before he got his bad injury I feel like he was going to have a season centrally. Scored a screamer in pre-season from the 10 position and it just felt like that was the way it was heading.

That said, I don't personally see Grealish as a WF as some have suggested. I think he could play there if needs be but IMO he's an 8 or 10 and has the potential, with the right coaching, to be the playmaker that England are crying out for.

because we haven't signed a good enough HG keeper and there aren't too many good 1's if they were called upon.

back to the latest Grealish news I really hope he is still on the cards, and not on the backburner after herc's news last night.

Agree that Lamela is best centrally. Had that opinion from his very first season, although I’m not totally convinced by him.

Imo we still need more than just him and Eriksen in the squad as far as ball playing midfielders go. Which is why I’d still like for us to sign Grealish and another playmaker if possible if Dembele is off.

I prefer the man in the middle being able to use both feet, Lamela is so 1 footed.

Agree with you, but perversely Grealish is very (almost exclusively) right footed.

@mil1lion - have a look at some of the Messi YouTube’s. See how he does control the ball with both feet and the amount of goals he scores with either.

I'd rather he have one shit hot foot and a good footballing brain than two wanky feet.

Football is won in the mind, you don't need to be two footed to be a truly great player, especially when you're not playing high up the pitch

People are forgetting that even though new owners have meant that the debts have been paid, we are still struggling to sign players because of the FFP. We need to sell to buy. Grealish to spurs is as done as any deal can be. But Roma thought that didn't they.
Hi Journalist - thanks for the update. I want this transfer to go through. Any sense of whether Villa will push Levy to sign JG asap? Can't imagine Villa want this to linger...

Are you comparing Lamela with Messi?

Lamela has never kicked on, he'll always be a squad player for us. People may have a bit of favouritism towards him because of his work rate and his likeability but he'll never be a colossus and will never be the player we all hope and believe he could be. He's a squad player at best to play in cup games, when there are injuries and to bring on as a sub when the game needs a fresh pair of legs. Sorry, I like him but I judge him based on what I see as a footballer and not because I'm a little bit charmed by him and want him to do well

No he's very one footed when on the ball and I watch every single Barca game. That's not to say he never uses his right foot as you say to control the ball or if the shot is set up on his right. Just that he favors mostly his left like Lamela does and most touches are to set up the left. Dembele is also very one footed. Just making a point that it doesn't matter how one footed a player is if they're good enough.

So as i understand it the Grealish deal hasn't gone through yet because since Villa's injection of funds they are now asking in excess of £30m which we are not prepared to pay. I assume we are willing to pay £20-25m and now it is a game of who blinks first. I can understand Villa's stance as there is a chance someone will pay them what they want between now and deadline day and if they don't they will compromise to us. Their risk is if we move on to other targets they might miss out on a sale altogether. If he signs for us I can't see it being before deadline day.

I fancy they need to sell him more than we need to buy him. I reckon there's an offer on the table and they'll come back to us with a few days left and say they're prepared to play ball. A Tottenham team with no Grealish does less damage to us than a Villa team with FFP transfer embargoes and docked points does. I still think we hold a fair few cards on this one
