Jack Grealish transfer: Spurs believe they can STILL snap up midfielder for £20m despite Aston Villa takeover
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wants talented No.10 Grealish to compete with Dele Alli behind Harry Kane in attack
Spurs chief Daniel Levy still believes he can snap up Jack Grealish for no more than £20million despite Aston Villa's takeover.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wants talented No.10 Grealish to compete with Dele Alli behind Harry Kane in attack.
Levy had been holding off bidding as he was trying to exploit Villa's cash woes under Dr Tony Xia, which left the Championship club on the brink of administration.
It saw Levy only belatedly open talks last week over buying Grealish, 22.
But Villa were saved from the brink when embattled Chinese businessman Xia sold a majority stake to billionaires Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.
The duo have since backed boss Steve Bruce and want to see Villa back in the Premier League after their near miss in the play-off final.
But there is on-going uncertainty at Villa Park over Grealish as the club are still under pressure from Financial Fair Play rules.
The player himself has told pals he is tempted at the prospect of a return to the Premier League to play behind Kane and hopefully boost his international aspirations too.
Now MirrorSport understands infamous negotiator Levy is still hopeful of getting his man without paying more than £20m.
I watched some of the VIlla v West Ham pre-season friendly the other day. Proper "what am I doing with my life" moment. Based on his limited touches and my limited football knowledge, I think the only way he'll work for us is if he's played deeper. For Villa he was right up top, almost a second striker, and while he was classy on the ball and Villa's best player by a mile, I don't think he's got enough pace or goals in him to play that role for a top 4 team. On the edge of the box he repeatedly ran into trouble, and looked much better when he was spraying the passes about.
Played a bit deeper he'll have more space to run into (one of his strengths) and will be able to influence the game more with his passing - something we lack in midfield at the moment.
it really isnt mateWouldn't be surprised if this was done and dusted - just waiting for deadline day to make the headlines. Nkoudou & Lopez come to mind.
I think he'd also be a useful player to have if we want to hold on to a lead and maintain possession. He won the most fouls in the Championship last year and was constantly winning free kicks in the West Ham game.Good insight, thank you. Whenever I've watched him I get the impressive that he'd be better of in a central midfield role, possibly getting the chance to play further forward once he matures a little more. I like his feet and his ability to look for forward passes. If he were to sign I can see him battling it out with Harry Winks for that starting berth once Dembele moves on, with a view of slowly getting further up the pitch the more he establishes himself and comes to term with Premier League quality required.
If he struggles to step up to that level for a top 4 club, a nice, neat ball playing central mid that always wants the ball and always looks to be positive could be a really nice thing for a team always on the front foot with the likes of Eriksen, Dele, Lucas, Son &a Kane etc always on the move, always making runs.
It's a lot of responsibility but he'd definitely a tidy enough player to have all the tools to start there with Eriksen &a co covering his space should he ever be allowed to dribble forward and through lines of four.
I like his aggression and I think he deserves the chance to work with Pochettino to see what he's capable of becoming
We still need another midfielder. Dembele can't start too many games, he needs to be managed through the season like Barca did with Iniesta last season. Winks is still not recovered so who knows if he will be able to get over his injury. I could not only see us sign Grealish but see him playing a big part in our season. Ideally we would offload Sissoko to make room but only if we can get some interest (unlikely).I wonder if after the Goats statement that Dembele is now staying if this will take place at all.
We could do a purchase at a reduced price and loan back for a year that would mean when Dembele does go we get Grealish, it also means Grealish gets to help Villa make another attempt to get promoted, which if successful means they would then have money to spend on a replacement apart from the initial sale fee. It would also help Villa's FFP situation without actually losing the player for a year. The reduced price means it impacts less on finances for other targets for us.
I think he'd also be a useful player to have if we want to hold on to a lead and maintain possession. He won the most fouls in the Championship last year and was constantly winning free kicks in the West Ham game.
We'd be a joke if we were no-hopers and no-doers, not when we've been top three three seasons running and are about to move into a brand new stadium which is the second biggest in the PL.According to Ben Pearce over at ESPN we've made no progress for Jack and we're not after Martial. We're a joke.
So hard work on the training ground and coaching doesn't matter at all?No but it’s the be all and end all to our improvement and winning a trophy.

Full disclosure, I'm playing a bit devil's advocate here and I don't totally disagree, I just get so fed up with the transfer window and everybody's hideous overreactions to it (we're a joke, etc.).Of course and it’s got us to the level we’re at now. To reach the next we need improvement. Proved that in the cup semi and juventes defeats
Of course it matters - in fact, that's why Poch is a damn magic man, he's one of the few out there that can take the likes of Trippier and make them one of the best players in a World Cup - I, and most likely the majority of fans, had hoped that we for once could go balls out and actually try to nab one of these potentially world class players, cause that's what most of us think we need in order to take that last step that would mean trophies and glory. So hard work on the training ground and coaching doesn't matter at all?

We all want the same end result - some of us are happy to keep going the same way we've done, and I don't blame the people that do, seeing that it's worked out amazing with Poch so far, but some of us also see the opportunity we have here with Poch (god forbid he ever moves because of Levy's ways), and would hope for something better than the likes of Sissoko, Nkoudou, Njie and all the other shit - while clubs such as Everton are spending 50m + for players that wouldn't even get into our starting eleven. We easily have the attraction-power to bring in someone like Martial/Kovacic etc, would we actually try to get a somewhat established player for once.

But again, don't we have any faith that those we have might still improve? The majority of our players are under 28, which is often seen as peak footballing age. Nearly all of our current lot have the potential to become even better than they already are. And if enough of them do, there's our title challenge right there.
