Do you think that it's odd that noone else seemed to be in for him?

Yes, but he had a horrendous injury which he seemed to come back from very well. I also think it's strange that West Ham got a free run at Felipe Anderson and several other deals elsewhere, but it's how it works sometimes. We heard that we needed homegrown players and that we couldn't sign from abroad and then suddenly Grealish and Zaha are off the menu. I'm expecting to hear after deadline day that we were sooooooooooo close to Kovacic or Milinkovic-Savic or whoever but couldn't quite get it done, and that's why we backed away from Grealish. Haven't seen the slightest hint of a 'brave' transfer policy this summer but the fat lady isn't singing just yet.

In no way, at this time, can not signing Grealish be seen as a failure. If we weren’t all so desperate for a signing this would be a very ‘meh’ moment (to steal Hercs phrase from earlier in the window).

We had ITK from both sides saying it was all but done (didn’t The Journalist say it was as done as any deal can be?).

We DECIDED not to proceed, to pull the trigger. Those of you with a penchant for doing so might even give credit to Levy: brokered a deal in tricky circumstances (including new club owners), agreed everything with the player and agents but still decided to move on.

The only way this choice not to sign Grealish becomes a mistake is if we fail to sign a better player in the next 10 days. So I’ll wait patiently until the end of the window and reserve judgement until then.

One of the reasons I was keen on Grealish was that he would have been excellent competition for Winks and would have been able to deputise for Eriksen. If we sign a real top drawer CM ( yeah right), I can see Winks getting sidelined when I think a decent injury free season could really be the making of him. We'll see how it pans out but I can see Dembele staying and very little change from last season. Poch is so good at developing players and I reckon Grealish and Winks would have been pushing hard for England places pretty quickly.

Who honestly would have wanted to sign him before we were linked with him?

He wasn't on the majority of fans radars and anyone who says differently isn't telling the truth.

Davinson Sanchez, Heung Min Son, Eric Dier, Lucas Moura, Kieran Trippier, Ben Davies weren't really on the majority of fans' radars either. Doesn't mean they weren't quality players, or wanted by our manager, or able to improve the squad.

Grealish was clearly on the radar of Pochettino and our scouting network, which is far more important than being popular on the Transfer Rumours forum prior to a window opening, so I don't really understand the point you're making?

It doesn't make the fact we've apparently failed to get this across the line any more palatable.

It sounds like we could have gotten it across the line if we had the desire to. It seems he wasn't first choice and we've pulled out because of other targets or the new owners are now asking too much. Still think we should reserve judgement until the window closes.

I was desperate for us to sign Son. I wanted him when he was linked as a Bale replacement the summer he left.

The problem is we need HG and if the itk is remotely true you'd think 2 of the 3 would need to be HG.if JG and Wilf are a no we really havent been linked with any other HG.

I know I'm confused as shit. I went through our team and we are at capacity on non-homegrown (my understsanding is we can have a maximum of 17 non-hg and with Davies in cleague we are 1 over. I've included Alder, LLorente and Sissoko. so if we sell those 3 then we would need 1 HG in the 3 we include by my count.

Edit, actually if we signed De-Ligt he may count as under 21 not sure on rule of non-hg and u21. I've cracked it lads.

Appreciate the frustration and attempted to offer some thoughts on the deal in an earlier post. Just have an issue with the notion that 'we've apparently failed.' Deals generally fail to various factors, and in this instance, it appears that an opportunistic bid became far more complex due to Villa's changing circumstances.

Under 21s have to be at the club for two years to count as homegrown for European competition. Until then, they have to be registered.

Im with you on this except I think 99.9% of the fans has a fairly good understanding about Moura.

I did and I'm telling the truth.
As I've said before, I have rated him since he was in the premier league and you may well be right that most people weren't hankering after him but it is a shame we aren't buying him.
Hopefully he won't sign a new contract and we'll still be able to pick him up next summer.

200 over pages and we could not get a championship player across the line with our looming CM crisis. This window is a shamble. Looks like we going into new stadium in not so confident mode.

It's not because we don't want to. He will be one of many targets we have in that area. As far as we are concerned the deal is on hold because our primary targets are gettable. That's how we work.

Targets lined up, Levy has buttons ready to be pressed, whichever is right at the time will be pressed.
