People moaning about our treatment of the player. Well it works both ways, how many players string clubs along before moving elsewhere? It's how it works.

This tells me that we are now more confident of getting a better target. I'm a spurs fan, not a Jack Grealish fan, so if we end up with a better player it's all good.

Actually with 10 days to go it’s not dead unless someone has imposed a strict deadline. If the new owners have said he’s categorically not for sale then that’s not true. If we have decided not to follow up our interest then there could be genuine reasons, or even brinkmanship. I await reasons or resurrection.

Pathetic for not signing him?

I think it’s more pathetic a club like Spurs with current regular CL football looking at Grealish as a number 1 target. Embarrassing. However I don’t believe he was top priority otherwise we would have wrapped up the deal for him weeks ago.

No chance he was a top priority.

We saw a chance to get a reasonably good player on the cheap but obviously couldn’t have been that keen.

I doubt Poch signed his new contract on the assurance we were getting his top target of Jack Grealish. It’s fantasy.

Personally not fussed at all about Grealish so not bothered at all that we aren't getting him.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I'm not massively fussed if we sign him or not but it could be just a way of the Villa hierarchy or Levy saying 'these negotiations are going nowhere - we're not even in the same ballpark' and leaving the other side to decide how much they want him /want to keep him.

This seems to be Levy trying to pick up a young English player on the cheap. Now Villa are financially stable he's lost interest as he needs to dig deeper in his pockets.

I do often wonder how many of the players bought during the Levy tenure were majority Levy decided without the full agreement of the manager.

We could put together multiple reasons and maybe we would land somewhere in the middle. One of mine would be Dembele staying for another season, versus his contract versus need.

Let’s assume you are right that the majority of players bought were decided by Levy and not the manager of the day. He has made a very good job of it hasn’t he. We have an outstanding squad of quality players.

Im not gonna repeat what others have already said.

This has been an embarrassment and nothing any new ITK will make me change my mind.

Levy is cruising for a bruising in my book this window.

10 days.

I think he may be cruising for greatness (I hope!). 3 signings to elevate us? Only time will tell.

Totally agree. The wheeling and dealing was fine when we were aspiring and needed to make deals work but the mentality must change and while Liverpool might just throw cash about, their player acquisition process is focused and gets the outcomes they want.

There’s no doubt JG is a huge talent and under Poch, the possibilities were endless. I’m very disappointed we haven’t made this transfer work

Hopefully this was an opportunistic attempt to take advantage of a club in financial difficulty rather than a player that was on top on Poch's wanted list.

But again it wouldn't surprise me if it was the latter.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

This has been the strangest transfer window for ages, lots of info but lots of it vague and things off and on like a yo yo.

I was for this signing as there seemed to be upsides, low cost in todays market and bags of potential....weird

Surely we could have got this one done earlier, before the new owners came in. It's not like Grealish was at the world cup.

We really need to get some quality players in. Ferguson always said that the time to invest is when you're on top, to create competition for places and freshen things up.

We have some incredible players but it may not always be this way.

You misunderstand. I didn't say Levy was responsible for the majority of the signings but the ones where Levy had the majority of the influence in buying them. I have no idea who they may be but I can hazard a guess at Bentley (our standard £16.5m signing at that time ) for example and maybe Bent. Young English who he thought he could sell on. Who knows how that held us back over the years when the Arse were buying overseas players like Bergkamp, Henry and Pires.

Grealish is a player I was very on the fence for.

I didn’t know much about him but have been reading and listening to a variety of opinions and stats.

Still none the wiser. Some think he is potentially great and an international player.

Others question his ability and attitude.

So can’t say I am disappointed if we miss out.

Typical lol all about to get him and they get fresh investment and can now afford to tell us to bugger off / inflate price.

I was also on fence about signing him so not too fussed, I’m just a bit concerned Poch may be getting pissed if his targets are not getting secured.
