This is pure madness.

Signing no players sends out the wrong signals on so many levels. Teams coming up against you know they can play you exactly like the previous season. Psychologically it has a bad effect on the playing staff.

There’s just two examples. I just can’t believe a football club could be so stupid as to not sign a single player. It must be mind games.

That's absolute tripe. If anything having new people come in has a poor psychological effect. If you take a tight hard working group and then throw in new unknown people who are there to take your role, that causes an impact. Think about it in your own work place and how long it takes for them to feel like part of the team.

If we get some new signings, then great. If not we have a pre-seasoned Moura, Lorrente and Serge ready to kick on. Plus in time the return of Winks. We also will struggle to find available players to improve our first 11.

The main thing I've learned from this transfer window based on what I've seen on Twitter (mainly) and now on here.....

....a LOT of people need to develop some self control.

Honestly, some of the replies on this thread are embarrassing.

(yes I'm looking at you @yankspurs, amongst others)

JJ just said Poch is happy and we’re working on transfers.

He said...

I can tell you all this as so much crap being spoken that he isn’t carrying on & he wishes the market was easier but it’s absolutely shocking for many reasons so don’t worry about him. Apart from Liverpool no one can do business it’s ridiculous
Players are 100% being worked on

Why only Liverpool though? Leicester have made good signings, Fulham too. Everybody has made at least 1 signing...

Doesn’t look like just us having issues to be fair. Jose was moaning (as usual) that he’d given a list of 5 players and so far they’ve managed to sign none.

I would be somewhat surprised if we sign absolutely no one this window.

Everton spent £50m on Richarlison. So I’m sure there’s signings to be made if you’re willing to pay well over the odds.

£50m for a player who probably wouldn’t improve us shows how much we’d need to spend.

Where did he say this dude?

Can't say I'm surprised about Liverpool, that club is run like they're playing football manager. Hopefully it'll blow up in their faces one day but I doubt it.

You can say what you want about Liverpool and how they've over paid etc etc but they're entering the season with a stronger squad, new signings have all had a pre-seaon, and they'll be ready from the off.

We're going to start the season all over the place. Any new signings we make, will once again, have to play catch up to stand a chance this season.

I’m not going to hit disagree because I agree with your last sentence. But I think your first is wrong. Players want to be pushed. Players coming in can help boost morale or increase performance levels. How many time do you hear teams say “X came in and training was sharper or at a higher level”.

The only reason they can do business (and it’s been covered lots without making this into a Liverpool thread) is because they overpay on agent fees, wages and transfer fees. That’s it.

It's funny, all clubs have more money than ever to spend thanks to the TV deals and yet, all it's really done is make it harder to do business.

There's no doubt we could have done better by now but it certainly seems like unless you're willing to spend over the odds like Liverpool and Everton have done then it's proving hard for everyone else.

I'm also still yet to see a player signed by any other club in our league that I wish we'd gone for. Genuinely. There's a few that I'd have taken but none where I feel gutted that we've missed out.

If Zaha, Pulisic or Martial end up at Chelsea for example then I'll be equal parts gutted and angry but thus far I'm still pretty calm.

The calibre of players. To genuinely improve the team, or any side in the top 6 is different from teams such as leicester and Fulham. We're in a position where to improve our first team squad we have to pay big and prise players who are settled in very good sides hence why most teams in the top 6 aside from liverpool are struggling to make signings.

Finding the right players is difficult - Morata eluded to it himself, he didn't want to join us because he feared lack of game time because Kane. So the outlay for first team starters is going to be huge, and then to improve our squad we're going to have find players who have potential or willing to fight for their place.

Are you sure? We'll have the most settled squad in the entire league.

Anyone we sign at this stage won't be starting and may not have been even if we signed them months ago. Our starting 11 is set for the 1st week whether you like it or not, the only thing that's really causing us issues is the world cup and the progress of 9 of our players which frankly, was unavoidable. Nobody can be blamed for that.

Understand what you’re trying to say and we’re everyone fit I would agree but sat here now, with 9 players still on holiday and at least 3 injury doubts, I have no idea what our line up will be next weekend!

It is good to have competition for places though, otherwise players get too comfortable in their positions. I agree that we shouldn't be signing anyone just for the sake of seeing fresh faces but I can't agree with the suggestion that signing players from other clubs is a negative thing to do. Of course they will need time to bed in but that's why people get annoyed that we sign players late on.

I think that it is total hyperbole to suggest that Poch is going to leave or is angry but equally, I can't contrive a narrative that the lack of transfer action or transfer action until late on is a great situation or 'nothing to see here'. There is a happy medium between moaning all the time or backing the club's hierarchy without question.

Fair enough - you're right there. However, half our starting line up haven't come back for preseason yet and we don't know how ready they're going to be. Granted, this would have been the case even if we had signed some players, but at least it would have taken the pressure off the likes of Dembele to rush him back because we have no alternative.

With the transfer window coming to the end before the rest of europe and knowing the market is waiting for Real Madrid to move. We might see a huge domino effect on the last day of the english transfert window. Perhaps MoPo is aware of that.

Real Madrid have an extra 2 weeks to move to wouldn’t surprise me if they waited until our window shut before going for Courtois and Hazard.

The PL is so fucking stupid for shutting the transfer window early.

Next year all European leagues have to shut before the season, why couldn’t they just wait for that?!

I’d almost go as far to say Liverpool have been “brave” in the market and bought what they needed before selling, they are set to challenge this season. Yes the market is difficult but there are ways round it if really want to get the players you want instead of playing poker

I didn’t realise that. Yeah that’s stupid.
