I've read that Grealish is a CM, an AM, and a winger. Can anyone who's seen him a lot reliably confirm where he can plays, and is best? I desperately want a good CM but I'm not sure he's it.

Since Xmas, Grealish has been playing centrally next to the less gifted Hourihane in a 4-1-4-1, with a DM offering protection behind.

As per last night's game, Grealish's starting position is deeper than that of a number 10. Essentially, his role for the last 6 months has been as the player whose responsibility it is to initiate attacks and counter-attacks from a central midfield position, with his teammates constantly looking to get him on the ball and opponents frequently fouling him.

Grealish's problem has been that the quality around him at Villa is shite. His strengths are good technique and confidence in receiving the ball in tight positions, and the ability to skip past an opponent.

He's pretty solid as an IF who drifts centrally, but I think he would be a magical fit for the 10 role.

My prediction is he will play in a CM 3 for us.

he played pretty deep for Villa on Monday.

I reckon he'll play as CM but occasionally float into an AM &I learn his trade in the Prem under Eriksen and if need be due to injuries or formations occasionally take up a wide left position if mixing it up is required

Hasn't all ITK on both our and Villa's end stated that Grealish is desperate to join us? I'm just putting it out there since Chelsea has popped up in the discussions. If he indeed is having a medical tomorrow I'm certain it's with us.

Unless Chelsea sign everyone we thought we were after, and then at 16:55 on Thursday, Levy will appear like Hercule Poirot (mustache and all) and say "Ah, but you see it was all a rouse.....", and reveal three even better players before bowing and retreating to his nest until the next deadline day.

As a fan, yes pay whatever I don't give a shit. Get the player. That said we've had multiple ITKs say or theorize Grealish is not our first choice, we just perked up when Villa hit financial difficulties and thought we could move quickly and cheap.

If we get him, great. I think he'll be a decent signing. If, god forbid, Chelsea swoops and he goes there to be sucked into their blackhole of English talent that barely make the bench for cup games then so be it. Was nice knowing him.

That's back fired hasn't it. Now he is our only choice, we have to pay through the nose, and it's taken fucking ages

I do hope this means that Roman Abramovich will be disguised as Miss Marple.

Edit: Actually it might be a good idea since his Visa won't be renewed.

This whole Grealish thing is bizarroworld. Not in a gazillion years would I have predicted in May, after our last game of the season, that here we would be, less than 48 hours before the transfer window closes, and we wouldn't have sold a single player, nor bought one, and the only likely incoming was gonna be Jack 'socks down' Grealish. I would've assumed if that were the case, then perhaps the stock market had collapsed, Levy had done a runner with all of our money, or that the chairman had criminally underestimated the complications of the window, which would be impossible, given what a great business man he is.

No... wait... oh, shit. :(

Yes, but we're skint. There's obviously little money for transfers, that's the only explanation for the lack of action...

Well if that's the case and I believe you are right then Levy lied to Poch about bringing in players. The worry for that is Poch could be pissed for the season and off at the end of it.

Yep. He’s not the type to turn his back on the intended team to chase the 30 pieces of silver.

What? You thought I’d forgotten?

Chelsea are the spectre at the feast, the sense of doom hanging over our transfer dealings, as soon as someone mentions that chelsea are in for one of our targets half this place gets out the razor blades and runs the bath.
These days they pick up our cast offs, those we choose not to buy, they are a ghoulish apparition but nothing more, understand that and they disappear in a puff of smoke.
