They were miles better than us on the day.
Tactics spot on. They pressed us like we used to press teams which led to breaking fast and cutting through our midfield at will
Whatever happened to our pressing
We haven't pressed for a long time now even last season it was an issue so have the players stopped listening to the manager as poch said in his pre match presser he wanted an aggressive start and we was as aggressive as a goldfish, or has he stopped asking the team to press as the defence is currently shit, midfield is sterile and offers fuck all while Kane and the attacking third is fairly impotent.
The game against Milan will be interesting as i can see a hiding on the card's for us in our current mood certainly don't expect us to get out of the group at any rate which maybe a good thing for this squad.
This will leave us with just the league to play for and try to finish 6th or 7th will be about right, no semi-final to worry about this time will be enough for this un inspiring season ahead.

Just woken up after a 22 hour round trip to Wembley and back. After reflecting on the game yesterday i'm feeling more indifferent than angry. I think the game yesterday was more about our own failings rather than anything else. For the first 70 minutes all the chances liverpool made were through our own mistakes rather than carving us apart aside for the first few minutes.

The worrying thing was how easy they neutralised us in the second half tactically, we really struggled and they never really got out of second gear. If they decided to they could have put a few more past us but i think they were actually a bit wary of us themselves especially after Moura's chance just before they got the second.

First half they edged it, the difference being they were more incisive with what they were doing and when we kept presenting them with chances through giving the ball away we were going to get punished. The whole first half was cagey from both sides and the momentum of a first goal was crucial. Who ever got it would go on to probably win the match. It is fine lines at the top, we made those fine lines like chasms with our own mistakes. I've never seen it as bad as that.

Yet to see the highlights or match re-run, i don't particularly want to, but i seen Vorm get a lot of stick online but from where i was sat it seem he kept us in the game at some points, certainly in the stadium it felt like the fans were appreciative of his efforts. So was surprised to read it, but he always has been disposable in some fans eyes.

A lot of work to do. But poch as always got the players to bounce back after lows, and i suspect the same will happen again. Onwards and Upwards.

Tactics and motivation (especially in first half performances, which we tend to start slowly) have been a bit of a reoccurring issue, over the last 2 (possibly 3?) seasons.

It's led me to have tiny, nagging doubts about Poch's ability as a manager at the highest levels of the game; something that I feel somewhat guilty about :cautious:

There are other mitigating factors; our competitors have more cash than us, there were issues with recruitment this summer (not sure whose fault that was), we're playing away from home week-in, week-out, etc.

But that said, you never feel that the team is going to come flying out of the blocks from the first whistle, come rain or shine. Or that tactical changes, including subs, are going to be managed in a fairly standard, competent way. And then there's the October (or November) slump that always happens. And where has our high energy press gone? Simply put, all the things that we have control over, are a little bit 'haphazard'.

And that's with the manager tbh.

Not sure how it's all going to pan out. Perhaps it'll be okay once we're back 'home'.

No but they were the 3 players we were linked with the most in ITK. But if you have first hand info on others I'll happily add them to the list of players that clubs didn't sell to us

The facts are

Sold = £0
Bought = £0

My first hand knowledge is that in all the leagues around the world our Owner/Management team could not find and buy a single for the positions we need improved. Every other club managed it.

We started playing better after five minutes; most of their chances came when we gifted them the ball and I didn't see much pressing that caused those particular mistakes. What was lacking was bravery on the ball and poor execution of moves. Despite all this, they did not take advantage of their clear-cut chances and got their goals from our mistakes. The main issue was losing control in midfield through mindless positioning and passing, eg Eriksen could have easily taken the ball down, rather than heading it back to no one; once Robertson had the ball, Trippier's job was to defend.
Who could disagree. Great observations.

Liverpool media have always been the same but now they finally have a team to shout about and have moved forwards unlike us who have stood still, they will probably win something big this year where as we will continue on the path of potless.

I thought there was nothing between the teams except the moments we gifted them chances through stupid mitsakes.

Maybe we're just going to focus on the cups this year so we have a pot in a cabinet so people can gloat on the social media? It's about pots in cabinets isn't it?

There is some real delusion here about Liverpool not being that good and the margins being fine.

It prob should have been a 4-0 win for Liverpool and it was probably the most one sided home defeat we have had for 3 or 4 years.

I think it's over for this group of players here and they know it.

We are a club with no ambition and we will get nowhere near City, Liverpool or Chelsea. The players and manager know this, so what is the point in them trying anymore. I thought Kane was absolutely pathetic but Poch was the worst, the team and formation was an embarrassment. It was clear after 5 minutes that it wasn't working but he persisted.
I have to say I disagree with the main thrust of your post, there were major differences, not least that they looked for and tried the forward ball on every occasion and we didn't, it could have been a 4-0 win for Liverpool but to argue it should have been isn't correct, we were sloppy and gave up two goals, had they been that much superior they would have won 4-0.
I have stood watching us when we have really been under the cosh, completely unable to keep the ball or break out of our own half and fearing the worst, I stood there yesterday and at no time did I feel anything like that, I didn't have much hope that we could get the two goals back but that's not the same thing.
I'm not sure about not getting near City, Liverpool or Chelsea when we finished above two of them last year but maybe we are in a bit of a rut and need to change a few things round, moving back home for one and, yes, spending some of the money we saved this summer. I'm optimistic that we will be showing our ambition going forward.

Christ mate, we're all disappointed but this doom and gloom scenario you keep painting...does it really make you feel better?
It's quite an odd coping mechanism.

Its not the truth though is it? Its a couple of bad results...we're one point better off than last season after five games...but don't let perspective get in the way of your doom and gloom filled outlook.

There are some funny people in this thread.

Liverpool actually didn’t play that well apart from their pressing yesterday, which is a worry because they were miles ahead of us. Should have been 3/4-0 minimum.

That performance in a big game, on the back of a defeat... I’m pretty concerned to be honest

We’ve just lost our organisation and desire

And at the moment Harry is looking like the bumbling kid we didn’t think would ever make it.

Mate I like you as a poster you are very good and although I do not know you personally I get the feeling that the team is not playing as well as it should be you don't like anyone offering any constructive criticism unless it meets yours.
I get that you don't mind losing as you seem relaxed with it but some of us hate it and find a flimsy Tottenham side difficult to handle.
Look I don't want to fall out with anyone but originally I was looking forward to this season and now can't wait for it to end.
