Haha I forgot about that drum. Thankfully it stopped at half time.
If it had at least been a real drum... being welted by an incensed Chirpy, it might have actually not been too bad.

But to play canned drum beats over the pa system, and have the chelsea lot giving it the "what the fuckin' 'ell was that" song... I nearly sank into my popcorn and cappuccino...

Monday morning innit...
It’s another false start if the start you’re looking for is perfection. Results wise at least. So we’ve lost a little ground, and this has very much been a factor in recent years, but we are more experienced for it. Let’s see how our players react to this. We’re still at the right end of the table despite not being anywhere near our best and being fucked around from one ground to another and the off field contracts, drink driving malarkey. It’s turbulance. Doesn’t mean we won’t make our destination.

Not by spurs. By life. People expect instant results. It’s the age we live in. Everyone lives in the minute, sharing thoughts on forums, social media. Instant gratification on meaningless little things and absolutely no grasp on the reality that the bigger things in life may take time and fail occasionally. That’s why they sit bored waiting for the goal. Anyone can celebrate a goal. What kind of fan you are is what you do between them.

I think a lot of the problem is the pricing. This goes for all clubs.

As a kid I got Spurs tickets against QPR. It was the most boring nil nil imaginable. Tickets were around £15 each.

The atmosphere was good and people enjoyed the game accepting games go that way sometimes.

But fans are charged a ridiculous amount now. In return for that money people expect a lot.

I just think a really bad culture has been created.

This, it's not just us it's the whole PL that's gone this way. Crowds at games now a all fairly quiet and only sing when they're winning etc. regardless of the club.

I'm not sure a bunch of supposedly grown men dancing around waving fucking shoes in the air is what's needed to be honest.
Most of the best nights I’ve ever had involved that.

I would go further and say it is most mainstream sports.

It is accepted in boxing that when a boxer has been away for a long time they have an uncompetitive tune up match or two to get back in ring shape.

But now if the fighter is a big enough name the TV channel will make the match a PPV and tickets are expensive for a nothing event.

The fans again get pissed off because they are being ripped off.

It was a real drum. The bloke had microphones on it.

When was that? It must have been before it became the family/members end.
I remember it too in the Park Lane but I was much younger then of course, maybe that's got something to do with it, I was going to games with a bunch of mates from the age of ten and right through my teens so by the time I'd reached twenty I'd been doing it for ten years and had the scars to show for it but it had become second nature to me.
God that makes me feel a bit like Uncle Albert, during the 60's and 70's..........:)
I also think the fact that all the fans resent going to Wembley this season doesn't help.
Not keen on a performance though, not in the German style anyway.
Early 90s before seating was compulsory, terrace behind goal paxton end

Wow, crazy angry response when I’m just a loyal fan trying to suggest something different - oh and there was no singing yesterday, which was a huge part of the atmosphere issue... so where was the singing?? And did it help?!
So you didn’t hear the shelfside/Park lane being sung?
Not a crazy response but trying to suggest we be more like Crystal Palace ultras....

Spurs has a rich history and identity, don’t want to just be any other club trying to pretend we have ultras and use a drum. I’ve been at Leicester away and seen their drummer. PMSL when that didn’t work for them.

Spurs clackers anyone?

Wave a huge flag and pretend we are Dortmund?

Why not go the whole hog and follow everyone else and sing you’ll never walk alone? That’s a footie song...

Won't happen at Wembley. Get prepared for the Emirates v2 when we go into the new stadium. Cl brings tourists and part time fans oh and vloggers.

What we really need to make a difference is a standing section. The other boats have sailed unless we go back to bottom half finishes.

I mentioned this after the game saturday. Those who stand behind the goals hardly make any noise. Im in the block next to them and all they do is stand up, theres little singing.

The drum was a Spurs thing for a while and it worked. If the alternative is just more silence then I don’t see a problem with it.

The main problem with Wembley is that in an 80k crowd you have about 15-20k people who have lived the life of a match-going fan for a length of time. And the fact some of them are miserable ****s who stay stchum for the match is offset by new more recent match-going fans who give their all. But this small number spread around a large stadium isn’t much good. It’ll take years to get the new Lane up to a consistent level of atmosphere while we build that 15-20k into 35-45k. It’s why away fans always do well. They live for it, because they live it. Yet again it comes down to what you are prepared to sacrifice. People are far too comfortable turning up to Wembley, watching in silence, then leaving again, pouring any passion they had into a social media blast.

I appreciate the irony of my post.

Another heartbreaking loss at Wembley, another lame chorus of fans telling my son ‘get used to it lad, that’s the heartbreak of being a Spurs supporter.’ How do we expect our players to believe when the silence from our fans was deafening yet again today? We have to do better as supporters of the club - we have to be louder than the opposing team, and have to believe (as we should) that not only do we deserve to be in the Top 4, we actually deserve to win. Every. Single. Game. Let’s bring flags and drums and whatever else we need to create a winning environment. Our players and beloved club have earned it.

Most of them will be dead by the time he grows up.
Hopefully by then, all he'll know is that we win a lot more games than we lose.

No I don’t remember one in the paxton terrace..used to stand behind the goal 3/4 way up. Remember the surf flag until it got knicked.
It was a bit earlier than the 90s tbf, more mid to late 80s.
bloke wandering round with a wooden tray round his neck yelling really loudly: PEANUTS!!!!GET YOUR PEANUTS!!!
Good times.
