A fair assessment would be that at 3-0 the game was too easy for Barcelona and so they slacked off allowing us in which slightly skewed the result making it look more of a game than it was.

I didn't see that game.
We were initially blown well off course
by a first minute disaster of Hugo's own making
and then a Messi inspired Tsunami.
But a HK goal gave us a life-raft to cling on to
and we drowned fighting for life.
We may not have deserved it
but a draw was on the horizon at 2-1 and 3-2.
3-0 never happened.

I can understand the sentiment of the performance and the players but I don't think the fans of City, Liverpool, Chelsea or United would be applauding a loss in Europe like this. I think it shows how far we are yet to go until we challenge on any front
They would if they had as many key players missing as we did. Context.

That old chestnut nut from yourself as usual digging out people who dare to criticise very sad never mind.
I haven't got a problem with criticism. What I have a problem with is unremitting criticism from the same sources, you being a prime example. I would really appreciate to know what it is that is eating away at you. It would seem that there may be an overrepresentation of older supporters among the complainers.

It felt at the stadium tonight that people turned up to watch Messi and Barcelona than us in all honesty. There was a moment where a few spurs fans applauded Barcelona play - that pissed me the fuck off.

There were so many people there for the day out. I was looking forward to seeing Messi but as soon as the game started I didn’t want him or his play acting mates to do anything but have a nightmare.

I treated it like an exhibition game. Second goal was a worldie. Shame we couldn't get a draw but meh.

Anyone see the ruckus in 135? It cheered me up.

Not sure if it’s being touched on but you have to play the ref in these games too. He turned up willing to give Barcelona every foul and freekick possible. How we got 5 yellow cards in a game that wasn’t dirty was unbelievable.

I’ve been saying this for 3 years and we still don’t do it. We have to act differently in these games than the PL if we want to succeed, I hate it, but we need to exaggerate fouls/nonfouls and put pressure on the ref at every turn. I did see Kane doing this in fairness but nobody else. We did it in the Redknapp CL season with good effect.

To be honest I thought in recent times with poch we was getting better at that sort of thing drawing fouls slowing the game down etc cynical stuff like Chelsea away couple season back, I think this is more symptomatic of most English teams and indeed the national side always look naive with this sort of shit.

Harsh on Sissoko. Terrible ball to him. Anyone else and it wouldn't even be mentioned.
Disagree, it was a routine ball up the line, Sissoko wasn't under anymore pressure than anyone else had been during the game; Barcelona pressing us fast and tight all game, with at least 2 players each time. He surrendered it comparatively cheaply, and we were caught napping.

Dier, Dembele, Toby, even Kane, have all been bollocked on here for similar mistakes. And rightly so.

We haven't played with the tenacity and pressing that was our hallmark for over a season now.

Perhaps in the future if they don't gift goals to a team that, while they are one of the few god tier teams in the world, hadn't exactly been on stellar form themselves, we may have had a sporting chance.

No idea what the rest of the UCL holds for us this year but based off the performances so far, I'd rather fuck it all off. It's not like people think we can win it all, is it?
The agree is for the first paragraph. The second, if we strive all season to get into the champions league, then why would you not give it your best when you actually get to play in it? Last night's opposition are what it's all about... elite football.

No I know I mentioned this already this season and last regarding where has the press gone etc think poch is even struggling with things at the moment but then I suppose we can't expect him to be happy with event's that have unfolded assuming that I am allowed to reference that as people get touchy over saying anything.

Sorry,
Football is in a bad enough state already
with all the excess money flowing in
without an increase in cynicism and unethical play.

Football will eventually catch up with the Tottenham way
It will have to or it will die.

Deliberate cynical 'professional' fouls should be a straight red card.
Don't join 'em; beat 'em.

Yes with elite players and owners who back their manager with big bucks we can't and or won't do that so this is pretty much us as a club topped out.
