Despite him not being racist, you'll know full well not to throw a banana onto a football pitch, there's too much of a strong connotation.

I agree. I can see getting caught up in the moment, I certainly have, but I wouldn’t chuck something onto the pitch. I’ve felt like chucking my season ticket on there a few times though that’s for sure!

Anything going to happen to arsenal for the flares or is what’s much more dangerous going to go unreported?

I am taking a banana to the Southampton match on Wednesday and I don't care. I am going with the OP but whether or not everyone does I think there is a question to be asked of the media who immediately reported it as a racist attack, with some enthusiasm I might add.

I think we're all missing the more serious issue of the dangers of littering... Don't just throw stuff on the floor people, bring a carrier bag and take it home with you.

Well I like bananas and have taken them into the ground and eaten them before. I will now take a good long look at my life and contemplate how foolish and misguided I’ve been.

I’m sorry.

This was pretty much my thoughts on the matter so I’m not surprised that it turns out I was correct; I’m a genius.

Seeing as the police and the club believe this banana hurler, where are the bans for the dozen or so arsenal fans who chucked their bottles of sauvignon blanc and prawn sandwich packets at the spurs players (and their own players lol) during the melee?
Which is racist toward Hugo and Sissoko ...

Despicable, really??

In the heat of the moment against your greatest rivals and one of the scum players is a few yards away taunting you just after they have scored!
Yes it is. By your line of thinking it could have been anything that come to hand including something sharp or heavy, and it was partially justified and it wasn't. Dier taunted the goons when he scored would it have been ok for them to just chuck anything that they could easily have gotten their hands on?

The old go to was to chuck any coins handy.

Nowadays you'd have to ask the players if they accept contactless...

I find it plausible that a person may throw a bit of fruit in the heat of the moment, but that the same person would baulk at throwing a discarded Ninja Star, don't you?

You'd think the risk/reward might tilt too much the other way.

Unless he's dreaming of the prison kudos (only to find out he's being sent to a gooner only prison :hungover:)

The guy will rightly get banned and whether he meant it as a racist act or not that is how it will be perceived which is very damaging for the club. People get riled up at matches all the time but throwing anything onto the pitch is completely out of order.

This is the problem here, I get both points, Fans shouldn't throw things at players that is day one at the how to be a fan school, it is out of order, on the other hand there really has been no widespread headline news condemnation of the throwing of (plastic) bottles.
That being the case it is not unreasonable to read it as the media BBC breakfast and others don't think it is wrong to throw things at players as long as it isn't a banana skin when there are black players around.
From ELY's opening post it seems the guy that did it aknowledges the first point, accepts he did wrong and will take the consequences and quite right too, I don't however, see any recognition of the second point by those guilty parties.

I suppose once a decision is made the person who committed the offence would say "Thanks a bunch", er I'll get my coat.
