He was referring to the players.

It doesn't have to be aimed at anyone. It is about being a man and having some class.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Thats lovely Baz, but it was still aimed at the players.
Being a fan isn't a popularity contest.

What's fucking odd is the 'When Sol Campbell dies' song was sung on Friday night.
Yet everyone's fine with the content and message in that one, not one poster has mentioned it...but you mustn't say 'you're shit' in a piss taking way to little old Tranmere, might hurt their feelings and make our club look bad.
Mind boggling stuff from SC.

I'm surprised Baz used Kipling as a way of making a point, his (Kipling) poem offended many in the last year. Now I am offended.

When will this madness end?

This!

The Sol Campbell one is disgusting. I don't like the bloke, but he is so irrelevant to us these days should just be forgotten about and never sung.

The chant that is being discussed should be left for the rivals and not lower league teams in the cup.

How does that make me a snowflake? Singing about someone's death isn't exactly a decent thing to do while at a football match what ever the year you're in. The guy is up his own ass, yes, but that song is pathetic in so many ways. He wasn't even playing or managing against us, why is it sung?

Kipling..."I keep six honest serving men (they taught me all i knew); Theirs names are What and Why and When And How And Where and Who."

"Take everything you like seriously, except yourselves." ;)

But that's (at least partly) because it's fairly universally accepted that the Campbell one shouldn't be sung, it's just a handfull of idiot who started it, so there's not really anything to discuss. Whereas the "you're shit" one seem to be really popular and is sung all the time no matter who we're playing. I get that it's just a joke and a bit of mickey taking etc., and so do Tranmere fans obviously, so for me it's got nothing to do with not offending anyone of being a typical internet fake offense thing, for me it's that it just doesn't make any sense to sing it to teams that we're either fully expected to beat anyway or teams that we know are obviously shit.

Like I said in my other post, the "joke" is obviously that the other team isn't shit, but we're making them look shit by thrashing them. So if it's a team that we know full well are shit in the first place, then it really just doesn't make any sense. It's almost akin to singing something like "Champions League, you're having a laugh" or "Thursday nights, channel 5" at a team like Cardiff who never expected to be in the CL in the first place so it doesn't make any sense. It's funny to sing that to Arsenal/Chelsea/Utd etc. because they obviously expect to be in the CL. To me it's the same sort of thing.

Im not sure that song ever caused the relentless moaning that this song does, but I can't wait until the 'you're fucking shit' is universally accepted as one that shouldn't be sung then.
At least then people would stop bleating on about it.
