I'm happy to ignore him but I can't hate him.

Why?Not too sure that's the best choice of word.
Not too sure that's the best choice of word.
a person, especially a lawyer, who uses unscrupulous, fraudulent, or deceptive methods in business.

Shyster =
What's wrong with that? It's not racist or something as far as I know.
It's a well known to be a loaded anti-semitic word. Just because it doesn't technically say so in the dictionary doesn't make it not true, same reason a person would argue that 'well niggardly just means ungenerous with money, theres no problem there if i use it to describe a person who just so happens to be black'.
Various false etymologies have suggested an anti-Semitic origin, possibly associated with the character of Shylock from Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, but there is no clear evidence for this
I had no idea "shyster" could be considered anti-semitic.

Apologies regardless, I certainly didn't intend any offence.

I've never heard any suggestion of it being anti-semitic at all. Having googled it to check it sounds like this idea that it's anti-semitic stems entirely from the fact that it is mostly used to refer to lawyers and stereotypically "lawyers are all jewish" or whatever, but it's clutching at straws massively to say the word shyster is anti-semitic. If anything, saying that the word is anti-semitic is anti-semitic in itself, because it relies on the stereotype that lawyers are jewish, but that's got nothing to do with the word shyster.
And lots of people disagree with you, but if you feel so strongly that you want to keep arguing for it on the internet then you carry on. The rest of the thread has moved on, Gassin apologised for not knowing which he didn't have to do but we all learned and grew a bit. But it's clearly a very important word to you so crack on using it as much as you like then you can enjoy explaining to any Jewish person who happens to be offended why they are wrong and it's their fault for doing so. Im moving on so for the sake of this thread going any further off topic i think its agree to disagree and move on.

If the Observer, a NY rag, told you shite was blue, you'd all believe that too.
