I actually really like that idea but I think we'd be looking very thin with only Verts, Sanchez, CCV and a reluctant Dier as our CB options. I also just can't see Poch and/or Levy going for it.The thing with Foyth is, his pure ability is unquestionable, he clearly has bags of it. Even the run he made with the ball in the seconds approaching his horror tackle was evidence of this. However, he clearly is susceptible to a rush of blood to the head in high pressure moments, it's been punished three times with this being the worst example and he's had several lucky escapes too.
The conundrum herein is that the only real way to get him to learn in this respect is to keep playing games, and have him play consistently, not 1 in every 4 (his ratio this season). The fact that, between Spurs and Estudiantes he has played fewer than 20 league matches is the issue, and I would suggest that his move to us game probably a season to early in his career, or we should have signed him but left him where was was for the duration of last season.
I think that if Foyth is every going to translate ability to performances, we need to loan him out now, while he is still young and absorbent. Keep Toby if possible, Vertonghen and Sanchez too of course, and in CCV we have a centre back who this past 6 months has proven himself dependable and solid enough. He may not be of high enough ability in the long term, but in the short term if it allowed Foyth a year to develop on loan then sell him on at the end of it, I think this would be the best approach.
I suggested earlier that a higher level Championship side would be better than a lower level Premier League side, this is because Foyth won't learn anything useful to us by playing for Brighton or Sheffield Utd and being in a set up where his sole duty is to win headers and hold position, because that's not how our centre backs play. Put him in whoever fails to get promoted out of Leeds, Villa and Derby. They all dominate possession, they all attack, and they all require their centre backs to combine defending with ball playing ability. That is where he learns how to play for Spurs.
And at 21 VVD, Vertonghen and Kompany all played in far weaker leagues than the Premier League where they could learn their trade as all rounders without every mistake resulting in near certain disaster.
Oh my thinking includes either keeping Alderweireld or replacing him with someone who we'd be happy to see partnering either Vertonghen or Sanchez.I actually really like that idea but I think we'd be looking very thin with only Verts, Sanchez, CCV and a reluctant Dier as our CB options. I think it's most likely we sell Trips and/or Aurier and he gets a lot more game time at RB, along with CB in the cups/if we have injuries. Not ideal but better than either throwing him straight into the first team or only giving him a handful of starts.
Isn't there some rumour that Poch would leave if Toby stayed after the fallout over his contract? But yeah, if we somehow kept Toby or signed a worthy replacement then I'd be all for loaning Foyth if a footballing Championship side guaranteed him starts. Consistent starts in a rough and ready league would do him the world of good.Oh my thinking includes either keeping Alderweireld or replacing him with someone who we'd be happy to see partnering either Vertonghen or Sanchez.
Looks like he has talent but not totally convinced yet. Looks no better than Chiriches did in first few games, good on ball but makes me nervous every game.
Sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if he'll count as home grown if he stays with us? I have a vague idea about it being based on a number of years at the club pre 21 but might have changed
I just can't see for the life of me how this can be true.Isn't there some rumour that Poch would leave if Toby stayed after the fallout over his contract? Surely he's def off ? 25 mill buyout for a 60-70 mill player . Toby can ask for a massive signing on fee .
Levy's not going to let his 25 mill get away by keeping Toby .
Apart from Utd, who I’m genuinely not sure Toby would go to given that they have no CL to offer, I can’t see Toby getting a better offer than sticking it out. Chelsea have the embargo, City have the Stones-Laporte partnership to nurture and don’t tend to sign players touching 30, and likewise I don’t see Klopp putting an obstacle in the way of Joe Gomez development.
Overseas is another matter, but once again the trend seems to be signing younger at the top clubs, Bonucci aside.
Possibly , but surely he'd want to go to Utd regardless of poss trophies , because the pot he'd get straightaway (what ? 20 mill ? Then double/triple wages) trumps all other considerations . We can't come close to this advantage imo .

As this is the Foyth thread I'll chuck my bit in. At the start of the season I said he's either brilliant or rubbish, no in between. I'm afraid he's one of those talented footballers with a personality and mindset that is prone to rash decisions, the opposite of Ledley King if you like who rarely, if ever, made a bad decision.
The lad is a liability, if we're going to progress it won't be with the likes of Foyth.
After he turned 23-24 and had a season being mentored by Naybet yes.
Though I think Sanchez is more comperable in this matter.
He'd played around 100 times mainly in midfield by the time he was 23, without injuries he'd have been one of the best players in Europe. If we're going to kick on it won't be with the likes of Foyth, we're competing with City and Liverpool who wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.
It does seem extreme but I think Poch had little choice but to wipe the slate clean at the start of this season due to our lack of signings and our issues with injuries, tiredness, stadium, etc. That doesn't necessarily mean he's forgiven Toby, rather he simply acknowledged it would be pointless leaving him to rot on the bench for a season as nobody wins in that situation.I just can't see for the life of me how this can be true.
I could have understood if Toby was completely frozen out of the squad, but this season he's been welcomed back with open arms, and you can see by his performances that he's enjoying his football again. Very much doubt Poch's future at the club will be dictated by Toby's contract situation.
