Oh agreed, wouldn't want him now . Just mean would've worked out nicely back in the day. Still able to do a great job

Yeah; Levy haggling at it's best

Hopefully our beloved leader has learnt his lessons

Great reassurance from JJ! Seems there's definitely financial backing for this window at the least, and a speculative possibility on my part that some business may already have been done.

If anyone wants to burn 20 min:

Always wary about YouTube compilations. Many, many players have looked decent on it.

Having said that, I like what I saw. Particularly like the fact that he seems to often try for a forward, penetrating pass through the lines and more importantly does it quickly without pissing about like so much of our play this season.

@JJetset In no way a criticism, I love your work. However, based on what’s happened to us in previous windows (De Jong etc) I struggle to see how it is possible to be certain that we’re going to be strong next season, but at the same time know that we’re still in negotiations with clubs over targets.

We’ve seen multiple times over the last few windows progress made over a transfer only for a richer club to miss a primary target, wade in and nick the player from under our noses. Or the agent plays games with us. Or the club decide not to sell. Etc.

I just can’t see how anyone can be confident we’ll get the players in the climate we’re in. I hope it’s different this year though - maybe FFP is finally making PSG, City etc shit themselves, or maybe we’re starting to throw more cash at agents like Liverpool.

You are still a way off there !

We are going to be strong next season and you know i'm the best 'pooh-pooher' there has ever been and never give false hope ;) *

*(well i did once and got completely burnt like everyone else on Moutinio inc the manager but that was a freak turnaround)

Hell's teeth, if @JJetset is saying this, I'm wondering if they haven't aleady been signed and we may be waiting until we sold one or two!

I don't read it as anything is absolutely certain, just that there is a much higher probability.

The stadium is completed and what a stadium it is. The focus now is clearly on strengthening the squad and being stronger next season.

Naively or not, I'm certainty convinced that is going to happen!

I think a positive we can all take from a very “high” transfer fee is it significantly reduces our opponents chances of taking a player away from us in 2-3 years time once they reach their prime.

As long as we keep the contract length decent between 3-5 years with extensions every second year or what ever the case may be, then we will always be in a strong position to retain any given player.

If we were to spend around £75 million on N’Dombele and he maintained his upward trajectory, he would be worth £150+ million to anyone who tried to take him off our hands. That seriously reduces the chances of us losing a player to our opponents, which in turn adds to our credentials as being a big club now.

We’ll only be strong if we get players in for start of pre-season so they can acclimatise and we used to Poch’s system.

Also annoyed we haven’t withdrawn players from Nations League carnival so they can get a rest and then have a full pre-season. Would be typical if Winks, Kane, Dele, Rose or Dier picked up an injury that trashes pre-season.

Definitely needs caution, but for once the money should be there. We just received a huge CL windfall and have huge future revenues thanks to the stadium and our growing stature across Europe. No more split of attention between the stadium and the team.

I'm assuming JJ has heard that the will is there as well as the money.

That said talk of us buying 2 quality players in the £60m+ category does seem a bit of a stretch for us! Seems like personal terms have gone well but the fee is often the sticking point!

True enough

I suspect, however, he is on hefty wages to be attracted to Wolves

Big wages and practically no resale value for a 31/32 year old was always going to be a difficult one for Levy to stomach

He cost 5m.

Anyways it was always a non starter with us with Wolves agent.

Exactly. Look at Liverpool - Coutinho wanted to leave but Barcelona had to pay way over the odds for him. Now they probably feel safe with all of their best players. It's enough to put clubs off going for other big clubs best players now. PSG looked like they were the new bully but FFP has put them off from doing it anymore. Madrid are having to fork out 100m+ for Pogba or Hazard - and that's for two players who want to leave their respected clubs.

The days of bullying a club and that club having to accept a 30-40m sum are almost over.

I just take it that were going to spend big money on big players this summer as a squad refresh. No more haggling for Bolton's best player

PSG, city etc can't buy every top player , there's enough to go around for those willing to pay the big boy money

Well stronger than last season has to mean better fullbacks, a Dembele replacement and an Eriksen replacement/backup cos they are the glaring gaps in the squad...so that’s hopefully at least 4 new faces.

to be honest Aurier hardly played, and towards the end Rose came on strong. midfield is the area we need covering more than anything. because of our midfield last season our FB's never had the cover. if we can replace Wanyama, and finally replace Dembele the back 4-5 will have better cover.

Mostly agree but we need a more dynamic RB to make us harder to defend against

I've not watched the highlights but from your viewing as I've never noticed it in many leagues does he have to deal with 2 banks of 4 too often? we suffer it roughly 30 games a season in the league. players like N'jie and GKN looked good because the highlights showed the French league as being pretty open

you can only withdraw them if they are injured?

you start telling your players to not play in an International tournament a semi finals at that, and a possible medal, you will have them handing in transfer request
