The point is that CE himself knows deep down that he blew the biggest audition of his life if he really wanted to go to Real Madrid, and to that extent he knows he only has himself to blame for that. He knew that the world would be watching and he knows that Zidane and RM would have wanted to know whether he could really cut it at the top when the pressure was really on and when it really mattered, because for RM and Zidane they are only interested in players that can do that in those high pressure games, and where did he fail his audition or interview ? In the heat of Madrid of all places. There was no hiding place. The CL final was crying out for someone to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and stand head and shoulders above the rest, as most players on that pitch that night were distinctly under par. It could have been you Christan and you know it, we know it, and Real Madrid and Zidane know it, and in RM and Zidane's case they don't just know it, they expect it.

RM and Zidane were looking to see if you could drag us back into that game and go on and win it and you didn't even get near to dragging us back into it. It's all very well doing it against Brighton at home when there's a couple of minutes to go or doing it for Denmark against the Rep of Ireland, but you know deep down that this just doesn't cut it with them. When they were 1-0 in the CL final against their rivals Athletico players step up and drag the game into extra time and go on all inspired to win it that's the kind of thing they were looking for. To drag us back up from the floor against an English rival in a CL final on a massive stage when the pressure is really on.

Christian knows that's the prime reason he's not been signed by RM already or why they aren't banging on Levy's door demanding him as first choice.

So Christian, what do you do now, dust yourself down, sign a new bloody contract with us, realise the future is exciting here and knuckle down and start to challenge with us for the very top honours with Poch and co and the rest of your teammate's, be insipred by the quality we are bringing in and let that be a message to you that the bar has been well and truly raised, you know the fans will also be right behind you too in our fantastic new stadium if they see that you are putting a real shift in. You never know if you shine by taking the fight to Liverpool and Man City and we end up with silverware your chance may come again with RM or Barca, but for now, realise that you had your chance and blew it and must try harder if you want to get to that summit again. If you want a real challenge,it's right here right now ! Get that pen to paper and let's see you in a pic with Poch signing a new deal !!

Absolutely fantastic post!!!!!! Right On in every way!!!! From the pressure to what he should do now.
Im just wondering what you think of Eriksen in general, you questioned his confidence here in the form of pressure of that big game but do you think it affects him in general? This is always my point Ive never suspected his talents, its more this lack of something deeper at times and yet at other times he does fantastic things, Ive put it down to when the situation is right for him or its not right for him. Seeing as you got this post all right what do you think of those things?

Ok that's being too literal. We don't know yet what they would pay for Eriksen but with that money we could get Lets say Lo Celso ,Ceballos on a loan and Dani Olmo not that we need all 3
But the point is getting the money for Eriksen and no losing him for nothing, its also possible that Poch doesnt even want Eriksen at this point

Lol why would Poch not want Eriksen. Every top manager wants good players. Look at City and Pep, they have almost two teams of world class players. They won the league with an insane amount of points and players like De Bruyne was injured and Pep could bench Sane when his form dipped because he had such a deep squad.

No way is he going to sit in the stand and rot. The bloke literally said if no deal can be done he'll sign a new contract. That's what will happen if he doesn't leave.

I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand.

That’s actually not what he said. I think it might be a bit of a “lost in translation” thing, because he never said that in the Danish interview.

He just said that he has no problem playing for us if a bigger club isn’t in for him. So it’s not like it’s a transfer request where he never wants to play for us. But he doesn’t say that he will extend his contract with us if he can’t get a move. He says he might extend it, but he also could just run it down and try again next year.

Derp its not definitive, nothings really been said. Looks like we are negotiating for Lo Celso and Ceballos on a loan its possible Poch wants to go forward a different way isnt it?

Yeah because we kind of need more quality players and Eriksens contract is up. But you must be crazy if you think Poch would say no to Eriksen staying if Eriksen agreed to an extension. I’m sorry but Poch not wanting Eriksen to stay is the stupidest thing i have heard in a long time.

The problem with that reasoning is that Eriksen also knows that signing an extension makes it harder to move. So it’s a bigger decision than just “sign an extension and try again”. Eriksen would have signed an extension a long time ago if that was the case, but he isn’t stupid and knows that he might price himself out of a transfer.

He talked about it in a Danish interview and was honest about his worth and how deals are done.

It’s also very clear that winning trophies and playing for a big club means everything to Eriksen and money means nothing. He is already well paid, so for him 100K more doesn’t make him transfer to another choice. He will 100% not go after a money move.

I don't think 1882 suggested that.To me he is saying that the choice to stay was a deeper commitment not a sign an extension and maybe change later

Eriksen isn't going to playing in the reserves even if he runs his contract down. He has positioned himself to have the best chance to get his dream move to Spain. Nothing wrong with that at all. He has been a fantastic player for us, and we have no doubt offered him many opportunities to be paid much more in recent years by signing new contracts - he has refused and nothing wrong with that either, his prerogative. It has saved us millions in wages which shouldn't be forgotten when bemoaning this situation. He hasn't disrespected anyone, he hasn't thrown his toys out the pram, he has been a perfect professional and I wouldn't begrudge him in the slightest if he got the move he probably deserves. (Much more so than Pogba deserves it at least). The problem for him is that Madrid or Barcelona may just not be interested. Not because of the CL final, (a single game where none of the star players on either team covered themselves with much glory), but because the final epitomises Eriksen as a player - he may be deemed just that little bit short of galactico material. He has always been a mercurial talent, capable of the sublime but never quite the consistent game changer of a Hazard. Even when at Ajax every team knew of him, he was this incredible prospect, but none of the big guns were willing to come in and take a risk on him. Personally, I think he is underrated, I think when on song he affects a team just as much as Modric did, but his impact is more subtle. Quietly he has clocked up incredible stats over the last few years, but perhaps too quietly. Let's see how the summer pans out for him, but I think it is clear that if Madrid want him they will come in and make a deal good for all parties. Not too good for us, since he has a year left under contract, but the fact that he and they hold most of the cards here also suggests that they aren't going to piss around with postponing another year to get him on a free. Right now, Eriksen is a bargain and the deal would get done without our resistance. I would hate to see him leave, but for his sake I hope it happens. If it doesn't happen, they simply don't want him, and if that is the case Eriksen needs to sit down and have along think about where to go next. Personally, I imagine that if that happens he may well commit to us, come to terms with the fact that a Tottenham on an upward trajectory may really be his fit. I don't see why he wouldn't sign a new contract then, because if he doesn't get his move now he isn't likely to get it in a year from now, a year older, just because he would go on a free. Playing down a contract is not without risk for a player who could get injuried out of a move and an income. He isn't going to United, he isn't going anywhere that isn't a significant step up in footballing terms. This is his summer and if his move doesn't transpire he has a lot of thinking to do, but he won't be rushing to any conclusion until the window grinds to halt, Pogba's situation is clarified and he is sure one way or another. In the meantime I suspect we will be building for a future without him, but will remain perfectly happy to play him if he stays and like every other player, earns his place in training, contract or no contract.

It is a risk for him by signing a contract,if he is really wanting a move to RM or Barcelona, I take your point on that score if his value then goes up, but I can't see Levy letting this situation go into the final year of his contract with the risk that he will go on a free, but as you also said, if he wants to go onto a club like these two to win trophies, if he's really honest with himself he knows he's not done himself any favours by getting this move when he's had the chance to shine on the biggest stage of all only to underwhelm those kind of suitors. Maybe the compromise to this stand off as has been alluded to is that he signs an extension with a decent enough buy out clause that can only be exercised by non PL sides should they want to stump it up. I'd be surprised if Levy wasn't looking into that as negotiating tool already.

With the way Poch thinks and works, I am almost certain that even if Eriksen does sign a new contract he’ll be gone by next summer and could be given only limited playing time this season in favour of more committed players.

The idea of Poch being unforgivable went out the window years ago. When he was at Southampton and the early days here, he was ruthless, but I guess he's realised its all part of the game and cutting people out benefits no one.

Rose and Toby are prime examples of players that wouldn't have played for Poch again circa 2015.

Toby maybe. Rose never said anything that should have upset poch. Hell poch has echoed some of the sentiments just in more diplomatic style.

No, like the tail end of the 17/18 when he was fit but not getting a look in. Did the same thing with Walker too.

Thanks for playing
Ah yes, those 2 weeks he wasn't in the squad..
