Point is that they are going trying to get him for cheap so they can give him a large signing on fee which will offset his wages. Similar to what Juve have done with Ramsey.

Haven't thought of it this way - will be shocked if they pull it off, as he's better too good for Roma.

You can bitch and moan all you would like but it’s clear Alderweireld is moving this summer or next. Great player, loved watching him. On to the next one, get a good replacement in or promote internally.

What are you talking about? Who is doing either of these things?

Might just be getting in early to see if they can sign in jan for a free next summer. Italian tax rules would have kicked in by then.

I wonder what Roma's game is here. You take the piss guys, but if a player has a set price of 25mil and it doesn't matter one jot if you lowball/upset his club, why wouldn't you try to negotiate below the fixed price? Especially with so little competition it seems.

No idea whether that's their plan though. Part of me thinks so. Part of me thinks that these second level Italian clubs love to talk to keep themselves relevant and they probably can't afford it. Nevertheless, they will shout from the rooftops about how they tried and the English club/player was just unreasonable.
I think it's pretty clear what Roma's game is... they're publicly declaring they want Toby but are not wanting to pay the release clause. We all doubt that Spurs will negotiate below the release clause, but Roma are showing to their fans that they are pushing to get a top level signing whilst hoping that Toby might kick up a fuss internally which could help force the move on more favourable terms

That is my suspicion, a whole lot of intent being shown with very little to lose for Roma.

From what I have read from past ITKs , once Toby & his father/agent reneged after agreeing the deal, there has not been a contract offer from us. To me ,its either sold this season or him leaving on a free transfer next season. No chance of a extension deal IMO.

No wonder, other clubs are playing waiting game or in Roma's case, lowballing Spurs into accepting a lower deal.

Toby seems fully involved in preseason with the main squad.

Best case sceanario IMO, is tie down Saliba to join us next season and get one full season from Toby with us. Only hope is, when he does leave , goes to a non-PL club.

I think Grey Fox mentioned a couple of days ago that Toby had an offer last summer. The father/agent stuff is two years ago I think. Might be wrong.

One good thing is if Alderweireld is intending to stay and run down his contract in order to get a free transfer and a lucrative deal next summer then it makes no sense for him to try anything less than 100% in his remaining games for us in order to maximise his appeal to a future suitor.

It has to be a coping mechanism from some posters who say Toby has burnt his bridges..a lesson to other players etc. Completely ignoring the FACTS that he played over 40 games even when Sanchez was available.

Also forgetting that if he goes on a free next year he would still get a signing on fee and a wack of a boost in his weekly income.. Toby is not the loser here, not by any stretch. There's a reason he inserted or insisted on a buy out clause.

Yah he crossed Poch and you NEVER cross Poch...what balderdash. He played 40 games and played in the CL final.. Toby may have crossed the club..which is different to crossing the coach. Stop trying to make it out that Toby is the loser..lol not by any stretch. His guaranteed to go to a CL club next season and still earn big bucks.

I love my club like any other supporter but i can also see through spin and this has so much spin its not funny.
Your interpretations of the "facts" on which you are venting your tirade is not quite right as you omitted a key element.

It was my understanding from the same ITK who provided us with the original story about the rift, that both Toby and Poch came to a truce at the beginning of last season so that they could go and perform in the season without this unwelcomed distraction.

No I wasn't asleep but Wanyama and more importantly Dier played that season. Sanchez was fine in defence he just wasn't better than Toby. We conceded less but it was due to having Dier or Wanyama shielding our defence.
I will give you a million GBPs if you can show me one poster on this entire forum who has ever said that Sanchez was better than Toby!

Not a tirade.... An observation of how SOME posters have been posting a diatribe on how you never cross Poch or how Toby played his negotiations badly.

You jumping into something like a true cowboy.. Shooting from the hip. Go and read the previous pages to see exactly what I'm referring too.

Sure.. Not certain what's grinding your gears today... The original poster I referenced mentioned that we did better defensively the previous season, I gave as Trump would say, "alternative facts" :p.

Gards did say week back that Roma ‘can’t afford him’ so that would tally with he directors comment.

There is no way we’re letting a world class centre back at his peak go for free.

The fact that dead-broke Roma are pissing around trying to get Toby on the cheap does sort of suggest that there isn’t a queue round the block for his services, doesn’t it?

Maybe we’ll hold on to him after all.

They can probably afford the fee...but the wages he wants? Nah which will be why they want the cut price fee.

This only ends one way ??

However it may now bring more suitors to the table

Dier wasn't a few times in that season. I'm not anti Sanchez or any player for that matter. I just offered a different perfectly plausible explanation why we conceded less goals that season vs the season just passed. It wasn't just about Sanchez and Verts ad per your original point.

I haven't googled it but you will find Dier played over 40 games that season or very close to that. The season just passed Dier and Wanyama didnt even make 30 combine appearances due to their injuries.

I never actually said Dier never played much, I should of not put it in the same sentence.

This up and coming season our defence will hopefully be a lot fresher and fitter and hopefully better protected.

Next season Toby or not we will survive, if we were talking about Jan I’d be more worried

Figured that... But we all getting tetchy i think, seen some other posts.. We've signed one 1st team player and we need more.. Its been what 2 weeks since Ndombele signed. We need to catch/ keep up with Liverpool and Chelsea. In order to do that we need to reinforce. Hopefully we make progress this week.
