Looks like a merry go round.
Us, Utd and Real all apparently looking at Fernandes, but Real also looking at Pogba and to a lesser extent Eriksen. Utd interested in Eriksen.
Fernandes to us, Eriksen to Utd, Pogba to Real.

We need Madrid to confirm their Van De Beek move, that'd really put the nail in the coffin for Eriksens move and then he can make a decision one way or another. He's been a great servant and I understand that this is his life and he needs to make the best decision for him but I care about what's best for the club and I really want to force his hand now.
Is VDB genuinely close or is it the usual Spanish press drivel? It certainly could change things but I still think they'd be interested in him on a free transfer, with Modric being close to 35 next summer.

It seemed to be more than the spanish drivel, VDB also came out and said along the lines off "yes there's interest but not as far along bla bla bla" but there seemed to be a few reputable names who had got Jovic/Hazard info correct saying that VDB is basically as close to done as you can get, we'll see but that'd really help Eriksen get some clarity if it's true.

Word among the RM fans is that they're looking to bring in 2 more midfielders. No idea if there's any truth in that or the VDB rumours, but that's what a lot of them seem to think. Hopefully the fact that they have 3 1/2 weeks left of their window means they won't rush to get involved in the Fernandes deal and will be happy to look elsewhere.

EDIT: Just saw on Sky Sports than VDB himself confirmed the rumours:

Donny van de Beek has confirmed that Real Madrid are in talks with Ajax over his transfer.

"It is true that Madrid are in talks with Ajax, but I can't say any more," Van de Beek told Fox Sports following a 2-2 draw with Vitesse in the opening Eredivisie game of the season.

"My agent will have spoken with them. Real Madrid are a great club to play for, but Ajax are still a great club. We'll see what happens."

Levy could consider Eriksen to United but our fans will only be happy in that case if we buy both Fernandes and Lo Celso (and Sess). It could happen. Losing Eriksen to nothing is worse. Or Eriksen could sign

I think the planning of Eriksen on his contract and replacement was pretty poor. If we had up his contract 2 yrs back and get a deputy last year, we won’t scrambling for desperate options.

In football, huge money is bigger than loyalty with agents wanting to optimise payout for themselves and player.

Yep. It’s a difficult situation for the club as you can’t force players to sign contracts, but we’ve not helped ourselves as far as succession planning goes.

Unfortunately we always operate on a one in/one out basis when we’re forced into action. Reactive, rather than pro active in the transfer market.

Madrid or Barca is one thing, but it’s pretty depressing that he’d rather fuck off to United and play in the europa league than sign a new contract with us.

Have lost all respect for him if that’s the case.

Just to play devils advocate it might not be his decision, he might want to stay and wait to leave on a free but we're forcing the issue. So I wouldn't completely despise him just yet.

Well said. Think how much more relaxed we’d be about this is we had Grealish on the team now after a year bedding in. But alas, we thought we could hold Villa over a barrel rather than just paying them a reasonable 20-25M and then lost the chance when they got new owners.

With Eriksen, I really hope some of this United talk is meant to nudge RM on and let them know they can’t wait until after EPL window closes. Still hard for me to believe they want to pay 60-70 for VdB and not Eriksen.

Nah, he’s got the option to sign a new contract. He doesn’t have to go to United.

Fuck him.

With the contract situation Eriksen has all the power. Would we rather £50m from United or nothing next Summer. It’s a tough one. It’s called modern day football.

He’s been a good servant but we move on. Players come and go, us fans are here through thick and thin.

I don't think Eriksen will entertain the idea of going to Man Utd. He's had a long-term career plan to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid that he has publicly stated even before joining us, and his interviews earlier this summer just confirm that he still has his eyes on this prize.

I think that Spurs are trying to sell him on a switch to anywhere - Man Utd, Timbuktu FC - this summer to try and avoid losing him for free next summer, but I don't think he'll bite when he only has to sit tight for a year and then find himself in the most favourable position possible to achieve his dream.

IMO, it's nailed on that he will see out his contract with us this coming year, regardless of any deals Spurs try to set him up with and regardless of any replacement(s) we might bring in this summer.

but if we aren't willing to agree to a release clause then we are leaving him between a rock and a hard place in terms of getting his dream move so his action is to refuse to sign a deal and we're forcing him out. My opinion is it's time for change though. I won't lose respect for him if he leaves because I'm ready for him to move on regardless of where he goes, if he goes United I think us signing GLC +1 is the better deal so I'd be pleased he did.

Providing we do nothing I agree that he's nailed on to go on a free. But it's a weird situation as if we do bring in Lo Celso or Fernandes (I don't believe we will if a move for Eriksen is not forthcoming) then he could turn around and sign a new deal. I just think he wants to join a team that are serial winners and he knows we won't be if we carry on being unambitious in the transfer market. Bring in GLC or BF and he must realise that staying more than doubles his pay packet whilst playing for a different, stronger Spurs side.

This makes me very sad. I have said my piece on this a few times this window but it looks as though he truly is after pastures new even if they are not in the bernabeu. I think this makes us weaker. The new signings certainly make help but I think it makes the gap between us the clubs above us wider.

Would love it if we toyed with Utd making them think we're willing to sell them Eriksen. In the background sign BF and do a swap deal with Juve, Eriksen for Dybala. I'd be surprised if Eriksen joined Utd anyway, I think he's more likely to extend his contract with us.

Yeah, I can see a case to be made like that. Like you though, I'll be amazed - in a good way! - if we emerge on the other side of what remains of the transfer window having made the kind of ambitious improvements to our squad that would change Eriksen's mind and convince him that Spurs is a place he could stay at to win trophies for years to come.

This definitely makes the most sense.

Funnily enough I was listening to that Peter Crouch podcast last night and he told a story about how Levy forced him out after we agreed to sign Adebayor. Crouch didn't want to leave and apparently things got quite nasty - Levy threatened not to give him a shirt number if he didn't leave the club. Eventually Crouch relented and went on his way.

I doubt this would happen with Eriksen as he's both too smart to fall for it and too good a player to leave out but I wouldn't be surprised if Levy tried something similar.

That’s a fair enough assessment of the situation.

Looks like we have to replace him either now or this time next year. We really ought to be trying to sign BF whether Eriksen leaves or not.
