That link either shows how bad Serie A has become or how bad those journalists are. How could Hallfredsson's name be put alongside Chivu and Iaquinta?

Italian journalists must be like English ones. 'Oh look, Kevin Phillips is the top scorer for Sunderland, he has to be in the England team.' or 'Look at James Beattie. He is banging them in for Southampton. He must be called for up the next England game.'

I do not rate Hallfreddson, and I have seen more of him than most, but I am bemused by the responses to this thread.
typical english

Still believe they are world champions. Everything would be so great when they got a english manager for england etc........Didn't work out so well.

It's the same thing when they compare different leagues

I agree with your sentiment in general, but Iaquinta is not a "foreign import" in serie a -- he's Italian. But to be clear, Halfredsson is not spectacular and is not worth 5 mil...

If a player like Bent is worth 16.5 mil  then i guess Halfredsson surely is worth 5 mil

It's time to wake up a little bit in here i guess

but Bent isnt worth 16.5million we had to pay over the odd's for him due to an increase of money put into the english game from TV deals i think it was

Erm, how many people here have watched all the games he's played in Italy? I get the impression most people are forming opinions of what they think he'd be like rather than what he's actually done. I don't ever recall him playing for us so I can't even say if he was crap for us

Or maybe he's having a blinding start to the season. While he may have never made it for us, Italy plays a much less physical and slower game with time on the ball and at your feet. He may just be blossoming under this style.

I guess very few has seen him.

I saw him in a reservegame, a few games for Iceland and even in the Swedish league. I can't see why he didn't get a chance....but i guess stranger things happens when Jol nominates the lineup

The great MJ did'nt think he was good enough to play in even the mickey mouse cup a.k.a. The League cup for us even though we were crying out for a left midfielder the last 2 seasons...

On the subject of left-sided midfielders who got away, I see that Mark Yeates (who I always rated more highly than Hallfreddson) played a blinder for Colchester today, netting twice against West Brom.
