The sunday People report that the Tottenham Hotspur board rejected Juande Ramos' £15million spending spree after they learned that the three players he were interested in were over the age of 26.
Ramos wanted to sign the Sevilla trio of Fredi Kanoute 30, Julien Escude, 28 and goalkeeper Andres Palop, 34, but was told that it was not possible since the board thought they were unlikely to recoup the cash from future deals.
it was the same policy that frustrated Martin Jol who wanted to sign Martin Petrov and Sylvain Distin who are both nearing 30.
Chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Damien Comolli are reported to want Ramos to hold back on any major spending until the summer at the earliest.
This would explain why the Petrov deal never happened when it looked like we were favs to land him.
