son and kane both had an off day and we still came away with the 3 points. So a big boost. Midfield is ugly, we need to find a balance that'll get the best out our front line.

Right, pack your shit up as quick as you can and get the fuck out of here, you’ve just committed daylight robbery.

Mourinho’s post match team talk in the dressing room...

I do not think Brighton was objectively speaking better. It may feel like that because we are a bit exasperated with our own team, so it kind of seems like Brighton was a little bit good. They weren’t. We deserved to win, but only because we were bad and Brighton was shockingly bad.

Delighted with the 3 points and bale's goal. However, I know we need to play better. I would at least like to see a little more composure in possession, and something needs to change with the players' mindset when we're ahead. We can't just concede possession and play long balls from minute 15. Besides that, toby and dier were brilliant, and tbh we should've had a clean sheet because fuck Graeme Scott the absolute dick head. What a poor excuse for a referee, absolute shite.

Also, yay I can relax and watch a couple of hours of Poch on MNF tomorrow. I'd probably have given it a miss if we hadn't won and I really want to see it.

After the debacle at the monitor Scott gave us absolutely nothing. It was almost as though he was resentful towards us for having had the audacity to be fouled because it led to him embarrassing himself (twice over) in front of the whole world with a display of unmitigated prideful arrogance. He should genuinely be sacked and never work another match.
There should at the very least be an explanation/apology. No doubt we'll hear absolutely nothing and he'll carry on reffing.

They've scored 9 goals this season
Yes but they also arguably played who over the course of a season would be classed as better teams (on paper) Man City, Liverpool, Leicester all of who are likely to finish above Southampton, Villa, Everton.

Awful performance, great 3pts! Back to the drawing board I'm afraid, Ndombele been controlling games in a 3 and mourinho decides to play him as number 10 leaving Hojbjberg and Sissoko to be dominated in midfield and inviting pressure on ourselves.

agree - NDombele played his best stuff at Lyon in a midfield role bursting forward and bossing they middle third. Not a number 10

He obviously didn’t get the email that said ‘the monitor at the side of the pitch is just for show, if you’re told to go and look at it YOU’VE DROPPED A FUCKING BOLLOCK’

Its the equivalent of when you make your dog look at the shit its done on the carpet whilst berating it.

Its not to ask it to consider if it would have made the same decision again in hindsight.

Missed the first half but the second half wasn't ideal. How on earth we are second in the league boggles the mind, but I'll happily take it!
Why?! If we’d seen out the games against Newcastle and West Ham both of whom we absolouely battered until the last 10 minutes, we’d be top by 2pts, I’d say 2nd is the least we should be given our performances so far.

We weren’t that bad tonight we were just pragmatic and functional and our world class attackers won us the game it’s what is needed in certain games, Liverpool didn’t run riot 5-0 every game last year, the majority of games they eeked out by one goal, it’s what successful teams do.

There's no bloody way we deserved to win that. Even when we struggle to control a match, we can usually point to the brilliance our forward line as having bailed us out, but that wasn't true tonight either: Kane was anonymous, Son ineffective and Lamela only a bit better.

The defence played well, but our problems were overwhelmingly in midfield - we simply could not keep the ball. After the promising first 15 minutes and a slightly dubious penalty, Brighton just took over the match and we never got it back. Every loose ball would run to a Brighton player, sometimes 10-15 in succession. There were periods of 10+ minutes when we couldn't assemble even the most basic of passing moves in midfield without losing the ball.

Fortunately, Brighton can't afford top strikers, so we their chances were not top quality and only one was finished - after a foul on Højbjerg. And after a long career, Bale knows how to find space in the box.

If I were Graham Potter, I would be feeling a bit burgled right now. They were the better team for most of the match.

Still. We're second. Rejoice.

And thats why I'm still saying Jose's comments on Thursday that its easy to decide who not to play doesnt have me convinced. I think more than just that Thursday team is capable of being ineffective at times.

3 points. All that matters. Literally.

Over the last 2 years I've got so fucked off with the likes of Liverpool luckily getting 3 points just like tonight.

We were shit but we won. Rather that than a silky attacking display and draw or lose.
1 billion percent this. Everyone needs to enjoy the 3 points; it's Jose's job to work on the performance levels, and tbh, I thought Hugo had almost nothing to do besides pick lampteys shot out from the back of the net.

Fortunately we didn't play well and draw.

We need to be better. Its almost as if we play exact as Jose sets us up rather than understand the way he wants and show initiative. Its all too regimented for me and no invention. It may get results but its bloody awful to watch.

Aurier Alderweireld Dier Reguilon

PEH Ndombele

Bale Kane Son
It's time now to play the above team. People keep wondering what the issue has been with inconsistent performances: it's the personnel on the pitch. The above team consists of the best players at their respective positions. There's no argument for any other player to be included other than the above 11 when considering talent and performance this season (and if anyone wants to make the case that Winks or Sissoko make the above 11 far more likely to win matches than not, I'd love to read those arguments).

Play the above team against West Brom and go from there. If Mourinho starts more than 2 of Doherty, Winks, Sissoko and Davies, then we'll drop points against the better teams in the league.
