I feel its harsh but eventually it may benefit Alli - he needs to grow up as a player. Whether this is the right approach or not, time will tell. This is disgusting from Jose and it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. I thought he was justified in calling out Ndombele and Alli last season because both players were clearly falling short of what was required, but now it's the brazen form of bullying that he's been guilty of elsewhere and the reason I didn't want him at the club in the first place. Alli's been thrown into a tough game without much playing time and did OK. To throw him under the bus for giving the ball away (a ball which went to their keeper before they scored) tells me it's a premeditated attack. I've got on board with his tactics, as hard as they can be to watch, but this stuff flies in the face of the values of our club.
He's already tried it once. If he hasn't responded then it's unlikely to work now. He could have said this behind closed doors. Also, this is Alli's game. He tries things and it doesn't always come off. It seems kind of foolish to play him in a role where you expose his weaknesses.I feel its harsh but eventually it may benefit Alli - he needs to grow up as a player. That would be fine if he treated everyone who made a costly error the same way. Someone seems to make one every other game. He's targeting Alli to make him a scapegoat, and he has track record of it.Bullshit headlines as usual. Mourinho is quoted as being "upset" that Alli caused a situation that led directly to a goal that levelled a game against a weaker team in a knockout competition.
I think he needs to call Alli out when he makes errors like this, whether that leads to Alli leaving us or whether it leads to him improving, both things are probably acceptable, certainly in Jose's mind.
He can't really win then can he then. Surely a league cup game against a lower division team is the exact type of game Mourinho should be playing him in, I would imagine Mourinho has been clear with him about not exposing his play. Ultimately it seems like Alli is never going to be a Mourinho player though. He's already tried it once. If he hasn't responded then it's unlikely to work now. Stoke probably have one of the the more resolute defences in the country. They're incredibly hard to play against. I wouldn't expect any attacker to really excel against them without much football behind them. He was definitely a bit sloppy but we've seen that when he's playing well his qualities can make up for that. One could see it as a flaw in the manager that he can't get the best out of these players but I also get that Jose prefers a greater degree of control over the game than Alli gives you. But my issue is more with the blame publicly placed on one person. We're more considerate these days of the effect this can have on people and I think Mourinho has crossed a line.He can't really win then can he then. Jose was upset that Alli is not performing how he wishes and expressed it-I can't see the problem with it. Pre Jose Alli was being questioned about his ability/performances and attitude. Alli needs to grow up as a player and in part responding to criticism however its delivered. He's already tried it once. If he hasn't responded then it's unlikely to work now. Jose is being harder on Ali over this 'mistake' than he was over Aurier's against Leicester, and that was worse IMO, (and definetely cost us a goal).
Aurier has money in the bank at the moment, Dele doesn't. If Dele had been ripping it up, maybe scored a good goal in the match then Jose wouldn't be criticalJose is being harder on Ali over this 'mistake' than he was over Aurier's against Leicester, and that was worse IMO, (and definetely cost us a goal).
