Dele Alli at Everton

Even when Dele was playing at his best for us there were some who still didn’t rate him because of his weaknesses ( lack of pace, holding on to the ball too long, detrimental to our build up play etc).

“If he doesn’t assist or score, what does he bring” I always found such a bizarre comment when he was scoring and assisting on a regular basis, but some folk just value skills you can put together on a video clip over boring match winning contributions.

Of course there is merit in the criticisms of his overall game and even as a Dele fan I can’t argue that he’s gone backwards and even his goal scoring touch and finishing seem to have deserted him so it’s only fair he lost his place in the team.

Goals and assists win football matches though ( one of the reasons Utd are doing so well despite having an unbalanced squad).

I just think Jose has made his point now and Dele should at least get the opportunity in the PL for more than 5 minutes. Singling him out for the flick at Stoke for instance seems harsh, especially when I watched Ndombele yesterday constantly try and dribble through 3 players marking him tightly and more often than not lose the ball.
Fair assessment, a lot fairer than some of the views on him.

I was someone who appreciated the goals and was happy to argue that those goals win matches, but as you point out, the lack of all round game is then applied in the guise in some circles as 'carrying him' as goals was all he had.

I have no idea if him leaving would be good for Spurs, a loan might do him good - permanently, not sure.

IMO nothing has changed, it's just the typical fickle nature of the forum. Eriksen and Dele haven't carried the team since 2017/18, but we draw a game and everyone gets wistful and demand they come back.

Neither player have the same hunger they once did, and that is unlikely to change
I think most people would prefer a more composed player than Sissoko playing as a right forward. If it was only one draw from winning positions fair enough but its not.

I can understand that but his value decreases by the month as he sits on the bench. Loan him for 6 months and see if PSG will pay a lot for him in the summer.

I thought one of the reasons the loan move broke down last time was because we wouldn't agree a fee to make the move permanent?

I thought it was because PSG's offer was only 3 or 5 million for the loan fee

I hope levy has a good plan in place when mourinho fucks up our club like he does everywhere else he’s been. Ancelotti Would have been a better choice than mourinho.

Hopefully I have to eat my words and he proves me wrong but I just can’t see it.

Ancelotti wouldn't be better choice than Mourinho. He also doesn't fuck up clubs and there is literally ANY signs that would happen to Spurs.

Ancelotti did poorly at Napoli.
The Bayern players wanted him out because he was less hands on with coaching and they felt he wasnt challenging them enough.

He's one of the most successful active managers around, but they all pretty much share the same pattern - they don't often stay at a team very long. I think he's a great manager, but he's no better suited than Mourinho.

I've always found it fascinating that Ancelotti always more or less looks the same, you couldn't tell whether he is winning a Champions League final or losing 3-0 at Selhurst Park.. Not a care in the world.

I just don’t get this thinking. Mourinho came in because our club was on the way to being f***ed. what he has done since he came in is to stabilise things and get us to a Wembley final. While some of the football has been turgid there are also signs of addressing long term issues in the squad and instilling a bit of fight into the players, without having a big chequebook behind him.

Which of the clubs Mourinho has managed are f***ed, Utd still competitive, as are Chelsea and Inter, Real Madrid still going along, Porto still in business.

Rather than leaving clubs f***ed, he has a proven record of leaving clubs with their trophy cabinets full.

Dragon1 on COYS last few minutes:
Regarding dele it’s all in Daniels court

dele does not want to be in the bench and Jose does not fancy him .

if we sell has to be over 50 , loan is an option as if Jose does not make top 4 or win something Jose may not be around long and dele is still a top player so we would probably like to keep him , it’s a difficult decision

He will be to us what Salah and De Bruyne were to Chelsea. There’s also a common denominator here too.

A player that good, does not peak and become rubbish at 23

Big mistake selling him......HUGE

Harsh on Dele. Even if Jose doesn't fancy him, how does Gedson get ahead of him?

I don't get Jose's thinking on this one....freeze a player out at any cost? What would the rest of the team think?

This is such a poor argument now

everyone forgets or conveniently ignores the reason behind selling players at a point In time.

those players were sold at a point which offered the manager to improve his squad to enable winning trophies.
If he hadn’t won anything then you could say he was wrong to sell - however that’s not the fact here.

also - the players he sold were no where what they were on their future moves - and it’s well known the amount of players with potential that go on to realise nothing. For every salah there are probably 20 others that go no where.
It’s a poor argument for those looking to beat mourinho.

and for the record - this isn’t inclusive to mourinho - plenty of managers don’t fancy a player - or more importantly look to upgrade their squad for the better of the squad - not keep every player in case they get better?

I hope we send him on an 18 month loan to PSG, preferably one where we get one of their players who isn't in Poch's plan in the reverse direction. Then if (and I suspect when) the Jose train flys off the tracks we haven't sold a very good English player for a cut down price because our stubborn manager was picking the likes of Gedson over him in the match day squad.
