Unless it's the only way we get Winks out the door I'm not entirely sure where JWP fits tbh. Imagine signing someone homegrown is potentially a big factor.

We have a shortage of quality CM options, so that’s where he’d fit

I get both sides of this argument and am on the fence. Currently in my thinking I feel like we need a true CDM - big imposing figure that can win the ball back. We saw in the euros how Hojbjerg looked further forward in a box to box role, and Skipp seems to me to be pretty similar (deep lying playmaker). If Tanguy stays, he's a bit more attacking but also in the box to box role. GLC can play there as well. Dele will fill a CM role but is attacking.

JWP to me would be quality, but seems that same type of role, where I, personally, would prefer someone like Joao Palhinha or Denis Zakaria to fit that role (little nervous about his injuries, but he's young.) Think homegrown would help in this as well.

Interesting that we have been linked with both metronome-type CMs (JWP, Tolisso, previously Pjanic) and destroyer types (Zakaria and Palhinha). I have a hard time believing that those five are all alternatives to fill the same role given how different the players are.

The former group would seem to fill the role that Winks plays and the latter Sissoko (or, rather, Hojbjerg moved into a B2B role with the new signing playing DM). All this suggests to me that we may be looking to bring in two CMs depending on who leaves.

We can do whatever thos transfer window. The thing I'll celebrate most is the news Winks has left

I think A&C has either logged in as Rob or the lack of selling Sissoko yet has really got to Rob :cautious:

Southampton could be in trouble if they keep selling their key players, Ings, Vestegaard and now JWP. I‘d be worried if I was a saints fan.
I admire that they always seem to be okay irrespective of being a selling club. They'll be ayt.

JWP would be a decent signing for us.

Glad you posted this so I didn’t have to run that gauntlet…:cautious:

I’d be a huge fan of this move personally. I think JWP is criminally underrated, brilliant midfielder and the best free kick taker in the league.

He’d be in the top 3 of my wishlist of PL players we could realistically sign. And he’s English, so bonus.
If we can combine a really good free kick taker with the amount of fouls that Gil will earn with his attacking style then you could be looking at a fair few goals coming via that avenue next season.

Been hoping for Ward-Prowse too. Not the most fancy name but one of those players who can turn out to be a great bit of business. I would have him over Ndombele to be honest. Offers so much more for the team and has a great free kick in his locker.
